Often, the urge to buy passes after a day, and your wallet will thank you later.

That way if you get calls from telemarketers who change their caller ID numbers to be local, you know to ignore their call by the area code matching your own.

Cut off the dry stem and remove any mushy parts.

If you want to eat it now - soak it in lukewarm water for 15-20 minutes and then in cold water - that way it will absorb all the water it can and be like fresh off the store.

If you want to store it for later - clean it, put it wet in an airtight container, add a little bit of water and store it in the fridge. It will perk up by the next day.

Many streaming services that offer downloads region lock their apps. So if you planned on downloading movies for your return flight while on the trip you might get screwed.

My brother’s wedding is next Saturday and I really want to make sure he has good pictures. That’s super important to him. And I would love some of myself. But I take terrible photos. Very unnatural. Like people comment “damn”. I try to “smile with my eyes” and look possessed. I would love some hints on how to do the best with what I got!

I just met someone who told me they have nightmares about being tied up and having their mouth covered with a stuffy nose.

I shared with them something I learned a while back. Take a deep breath and hold it until it feels uncomfortable. Breathe out, breathe in, and do it two more times. Shortly after, your nose should be open and unstuffed.

I have to use a CPAP and my doctor told me about it. It works like magic for me. It even gives me some relief when dealing with allergies. YMMV, but give it a try.

  • Gives a sense of noise levels (loud cars, barking dogs, etc) in morning, afternoon, night
  • Gives a sense of traffic volume
  • Gives a glimpse into neighborhood vibe (older crowd, younger crowd, kid friendly, pet friendly, etc)
  • Esp. at night, shows how much (or little) street light there is
  • Shows how crowded parking can get

I started saving sweet texts and compliments in a Notes folder and it’s my go-to when I’m anxious or down. Seriously helps. Try it.

One of the easiest ways to be a better friend? Brag about your friends when they can hear it*,* especially around other people. Give credit, compliment them, celebrate their wins. Public praise hits different and helps your whole friend group vibe stronger. But if they mess up or something bothers you? Don’t drag them in front of the group. Nobody wants to be put on blast. Pull them aside. A quiet, respectful convo goes way further than a public callout. Friendship isn’t about being perfect, it's about handling things with care. Cheer loud, critique soft. Your friendships will last longer and feel stronger.

You rarely will type that combination, and it can be such a convenient time saver for filling in forms that do not allow or prompt autofill, or simply adding to text of an email. Then when you need to use it, just type your sequence of choice and it automatically replaces it. Enjoy!

Hello all, as the title implies I would like to know if anyone here has some life changing tips on how I can wake up earlier in the mornings.

Allow me to explain the factors that I'm constantly dealing with. I will say, they're not insanely "bad" . It's just dealing with these in conjunction to recovering from a serious 5 year bout with depression has been proving to be reallllllly hard.

So, being someone who had dealt with depression for the better part of 5 years, I was sleeping in a whole lot. I mean in the middle of the day, through my alarms, and sleeping with sunlight bearing through my window. I also had started sleeping with total black out curtains so absolutely NO light can get in and it's completely dark.

Now, I've tried fighting this problem. I've put my alarms on my phone and have placed my phone on my dresser that's across the room so that I have to get up off the bed and walk to turn it off. I have tried sleeping early ( you know to get more sleep so I can wake up earlier) which guess what,, it didnt work. I've had my girlfriend physically shake me, but nothing seems to help. My sister who owns a Hatch alarm clock recommended me purchase one, but I cannot afford one with this current economy.

So here I am asking if there is anything that can be recommended so that I can maybe get my ass up... ?

If you ever have to dispute anything or if something was damaged, you have concrete proof. Without it, it becomes a he said she said and that never leaves you in a strong position.

Original Title: LPT:When overworked and more is added, don't say 'no, I can't' or 'I'm over loaded with work', instead say 'sure, I can do it after I finish ___ and have it to you by ___" But make the date much later.

If that's too late for them, they are the ones pulling the request and not you declining. Instead of them feeling you refused their request, they'll feel like they'll need to find an alternative. You won't have to argue your case or face backlash.

The other side of this is they tell you to not do whatever you're working on and to prioritise their request, in which case, you do that because you've got permission to push other tasks back and if anyone has a problem with that, you direct them to whomever had you do that.

This response works because you are not declining anything, you're just pawning off the decision making (and so the blame taking) to whomever is asking you to do something. Whatever happens from this point, you're in the clear but one thing is for sure, you won't be tasked with doing more than you can handle (or paid for)

So many people nowadays don’t have their loved ones’ numbers memorized. One of the biggest challenges of psychiatric holds (outside of the traumatic removal) is that many people can’t call their loved ones because they’re not allowed access to their smartphone. The same goes for jail — of course most people never think it’ll happen, but if you get in that situation, they’re almost never going to let you check your phone for important phone numbers. They’re a little more likely to allow it if it’s in your wallet.

This is my first life Pro Tip and it may be obvious to some, but I find it really helpful. If your vision is bad enough you can’t really tell what you look like with the spec frames and this can help. I also find a picture of myself tells me more what I really look like. I never thought about sharing this but someone saw me doing it yesterday in Costco and thought it was a great idea.

As we all know, major internet/TV companies drag their feet, overcharge or even fail to do what they tell you they'll do. For example, I had xfinity and canceled the service (due to moving to a non-covered area) over a month ago. My service was terminated but I was still being billed. I contacted support 4 times, twice by phone and twice via chat. Initial 3 times were within 2 weeks of canceling my service to which they said I would not be charged again and all charges would be removed, low and behold a month later. One final chat and support guaranteed the charges would be removed within 24 hours. 2 days later I still have a full balance and it's over due.

Here's the lifehack part: if you ever find yourself in this situation or similar, go to the FCC website and file a complaint. Explain the entire situation and try to get screenshots of the chats you've had with support (limited to 4 uploads). After doing this, my issue was resolved in less than 24 hours. Big companies will do everything they can to not help you but take FCC complaints very seriously.

Cross posting here as it was removed from r/lifehacks

You'd think it would be management 101 but after a decade in the workforce, I've seen it all too often.

One of the VPs gets flack for something that was done that shouldn't have happened. They then unleash their angry tirade on some middle level manager laden with the worst assumptions of the employee responsible.

And like clockwork, approaching the employee and asking for the full story almost always goes one of 3 ways.

  • Immediate knowledge they did the mistake and their attempts to correct it or raise the alarm that the bosses weren't aware of. And when VP is informed the appropriate process was followed, all of the sudden that anger turns to figuring out where the chain failed to alert them.
  • Genuine confusion they shouldn't have done X. If they're a bad employee, this is where they usually fess up to a bunch of other things they shouldn't have done that led up to it, giving HR everything they need depending on the nature of the issue.
  • But by far the most common is that the employee was instructed by some superior to do "x" and that superior neglected to tell the VP beforehand. And when VP learns that their equal fucked up, all of the sudden things are at peace again and a calm descends at work again.

With all 3 of the above, you have done right by the employee and given them a chance to clarify the record. Even when an employee was in the wrong, they often feel as though they still had a fair shake.

But neglect this respect and rush to the employee to scold them and you'll rightfully earn a grudge many hold onto as long as they work there.

And have them do the same for you. This way, if a bag gets lost, you’ll still have some clothes for the start of your trip until your bag shows up.

And yes, you can also use your carry on for this but you can pack a lot more clothes in half a suitcase.

You never realize how useful a tiny fold up is until you need one. Unexpected groceries, soggy umbrellas, lending a hand to someone struggling with extra stuff, it handles it all. It barely takes up space, lasts way longer than those filmsy plastic bags, and you won't feel guilty at checkout for forgetting your tote again. Total small item with big win energy.

If you live in an area where you might occasionally visit an IKEA buy several of their big blue plastic bags. They survive anything and can carry as much weight as you can put in them. I use them weekly to bring in my giant grocery loads in a single trip and it saves my hands.

Original Title: LPT : After roof installation, ask the team to spray water to check for leaks. It ensures instant fixes (no extra cost) and avoids future delays in after-sales service, where many companies tend to back out.

My partner's father was an ER doctor, and he told me he had started asking every patient what their greatest fear was about their medical situation. Oftentimes, a doctor hadn't considered your biggest fear because it's not as relevant as you think, and they'll be happy to reassure you about it. On the other hand, it could provide them enough context to think about your diagnosis differently -- your biggest fear hint at what your worst or most persistent symptoms are, despite what you might say they are.

People will often say things like, "I'm afraid to bring this disease home and hurt my family" -- the doctor might reassure you that it's not as contagious as you think.

You may also have googled your symptoms and gotten a worst-case scenario -- a doctor can tell you how that worst-case actually presents differently than your case.

I hope this is helpful, and stay healthy!

I thought this was normal, but the looks on my coworkers faces told me otherwise. Works on a stale slice of bread, a rock hard bagel, ultra crusty French bread, etc. For the really dry ones, a few flecks of water and 10 seconds is all it needs to bring it back. Even if your intention isn't to use the bread for eating but for further processing (French toast), microwave it to get it back to baseline fresh, then process it.

Outside of mold, this pretty much removes the freshness time limit that bread has. The only application this doesn't really work for is if you need stale bread to make something specific like Thanksgiving stuffing.
