Meshtastic

Dual node Meshtastic and MeshCore. I think both networks have their benefits, and now I don't have to choose. We'll see how two nodes does in the winter. But right now a single solar panel is plenty to keep the battery constantly topped up.

I'm really hoping that I'm getting the wrong information here.

I like alot of people have fell into the rabbit hole which is LoRa. No this is not a AA meeting, this a release announcement, for the last month or two i have designed and prototyped a fully modular and open sourced case,

i go more into detail on printables, but ill keep it short here

1.Public Domain license I did this because i love LoRa and the meshtastic community, its just so cool to be able to find other people in the wild whom are also turbo nerds like myself. However when i got into this hobby, it left a bitter taste in my mouth knowing that the most popular cases all have very restrictive licenses. Some of which not allowing Remixing, which i think hampers innovation and RepRap culutre. So i designed a 3d printable case for this!

2. Interoperability I see a lot of other cases have separate designs for the RAK, Heltecs and T breams. So when designing this case my main goal was to make it separate parts allowing different components to be swapped. I did this by making it 4 main body parts.

3.Objective

The main reason i made this was because i wanted a FULLY open alternative, it honestly kills me as a maker. When i find a really cool project or model but it doesnt allow remixing.

4. Story

about 6 months ago i bought myself a heltec v3 and became obsessed with meshtastic. This obsession like many others eventually made its way into my friend group, so i showed my friends.This awesome and potentially ground breaking technology, So my heltec then became 3 RAK's. I 3d printed one of the most popular cases on printables for meshtastic (you know the one) and i liked it. but then i had all these IDEAS! what if i made a flap to cover the USB port? What if i made a molly webbing and belt clip??? but i then realized the license doesn't allow remixing or modding the design, well all these crazy ideas plagued me, until i decided to do some modeling. It took over 30 revisions to make it the way i want, and its not 100% perfect but i feel it has good bones. So i printed 3 of them and a few weeks ago myself and friends assembled our radios.

To be genuine for a second, i really could not care less if somebody take this design and sells it, remixes it or makes something infinity better than my original. I JUST WANT A BETTER ALTERNATIVE!!

Just received my first meshtastic device. Unfortunately, as I expected, I couldn't connect to another node from home. Drove to the top of the skiing hill by my house, and was super excited to see nodes pop up. Tried DMing the closest one, but I didn't have much time to stick around for the response. Thinking about asking the general manager of the ski resort permission to put a router on top of the mountain (if I'm wrong about the mode, let me know, but seems router would be best fit). Does anyone have recommendations for outdoor solar panel ready-to-go kits?

It was shortly discussed by the dev, before the ticket was deleted.

Both Apps by default use datadog for telemetry, with enough info to fingerprint a device. You can disable it in the settings, but in my opinion a dialog like “Help the App get better by sharing xyz” would sit better with a privacy focused App.

For me the discourse and how things were handled are a deal breaker.

After having meshtastic for a little more than a year and having a heck of a time losing messages in my local area, I took the plunge and tried out meshcore. Its working pretty well so far.

Saw this video and found it interesting. Anyways I hope that both protocols will co-exist in the future.

I am looking at a meshtastic solar node that contains the Seeed XIAO nrf52 as its brain and am wondering if it can do ota updates since it would be in a tree. https://www.seeedstudio.com/XIAO-nRF52840-Wio-SX1262-Kit-for-Meshtastic-p-6400.html

The documentation says the RAK devices can, but the documentation might be out of date because they are recommending a version of the NRF Connect app that's from like 2020.

Like the title mentions I am new to Meshtastic and would like to buy a T-Deck Plus with an external antenna from Lilygo (as I heard the internal one is not that good). Does anyone know if an antenna like this would work/make sense with that device? What antennas do you use? Thanks in advance.

I can't put holes in my roof or exterior at my current residence, but a salvaged ridge mount from Starlink seems to be getting the job done. SenseCAP Solar Node P1-Pro no longer has to stare longingly out my office window. A bit janky perhaps, but bonus points for not falling off steep roof while getting it up there!

This seems like something meshtastic would not fall victim to.
