It only seemed fitting to have Lemmy himself as the icon.

Here on YouTube.

Their other albums are not like this, by the way: just regular death-metal with weedly-weedly and stuff. So far the closest I found is the band Six Feet Under. Please let me know if there are other bands playing like this.

The playlist seems to have been updated over the years, and hopefully will be augmented further in the future.

Alas, some of the tunes are too obviously and not too well made in software.

Been reminded of this band and this awesome record recently, and had to share my favorite song from them ever, a ten-minute epic.

From Finaland, this symphonic power metal group released this album in 2004, during my formative teenage years, so it's been imprinted of this smooth brain of mine lmao.

I feel like this could be the soundtrack to a fantasy film or some such, with the epic drama and bombastic parts during the climax.

Tidal, Bandcamp, RateYourMusic, Encyclopaedia Metallum

The second album by the band, with a still pretty aggressive sound, predating their excursions into trip-hop and such. But already having the signature atmosphere and showing the great promise. Plus some surprise switches in the middle, which they would do much less shyly later on.

The EP ‘He Never Spoke A Mumblin’ Word’, released after Mamaleek's first trip-hop endeavor, kinda returned to this brutal sound, though with much progress made in song structures.

Nice that they got signed on Metal Blade

Maybe crust punk, I'm not quite versed in genres around hardcore.

The demo is kinda more aggressive than their albums, which are produced cleaner but lack some of the kick.

Idk what exactly this genre is called, as it's slower and heavier than most doom, but not as psychedelic as stoner-metal. I wouldn't mind finding more in this vein.

Spotify's shuffle hadn't served me up The Ripper in quite some time and I felt like listening to it, that's when I noticed the "content was not available" anymore. Luckily the old version of the album is still available (or perhaps they switched them out).

It's bad enough Jugulator and Demolition aren't on there, and I'm already not the biggest Spotify fan. Very annoying stuff.

Exumer - Hostile Defiance

I always take a special look at the album openers when I listen to new records. When I discovered this LP, I really liked this one.

A very nice mix from being mean and using melodies as well.

Good thrash band from Germany who failed to start a great career. When the head out in the beginning I should say they were better than Kreator/Sodom at that time.

So what - enjoy: https://tidal.com/browse/track/102941394?u

This is the album where Mamaleek perhaps first came into their own, departing from the jazzy-raw-black-metal roots into a wild mix of said black metal with trip-hop rhythms — wholly unexpected for their origins, but not the last madcap change they would do throughout their career.

This is pretty mind-blowing to me, gonna try and hunt this stuff down in FLAC (vinyl will probably be too expensive)...

The Grief - Through Fire & Rain, from their 2023 album Crucible.

I think this band from Ireland needs more recognition.

Agent Steel - Unstoppable Force

Friday night - it’s time for a classic.

Alien-themed speed metal with outstanding vocals. I can understand when the voice is a little too much for some listeners, however IMO Agent Steel wouldn’t be themselves without John Cyriis.

Guitars are magnificent, too. You can still hear the NWOBHM roots (Rager), but also their transition to speed/thrash.

Altogether a blast from the past and a gem from the 80s.
