Given we all live in a decidedly niche music sphere, I thought it might be helpful if we share our tips/tricks for finding new artists. Here's my tried and true: everynoise.com

From their An Evening With Haken tour, which was incredible! Recently picked up the album for this tour too. Haken is my GOAT pick for prog metal these days.

Highly anticipated album for me with Fountainhead on the guitar, who played and wrote large parts of Obscura's Akroasis and is a very unique player using fretless guitar. Also vocals by Morean (Alkaloid, Dark Fortress). I somehow missed that the album came out a week ago, from listening so far it is really cool and quite out there.

Jazz Metal rearrangement of Meshuggah's well known Bleed. They do some weird stuff with the tempo, which makes it pretty mind bending.

Just got into them about a week ago. Many people seem to consider Years Past Matter to be the definite album to start with, but Psychagogue grapped me more - I'd say it has a proggier vibe, in parts touching some Gorguts ish and in places even Progrock tones.

It's also one of their shorter releases, making it a bit more digestible

Got these recommended by the algorithm recently and really liked it. Rhythm side bit like earlier Meshuggah and the Jazz elements are really nice. Much prog such wow

This hits the sweet spot for me. Super complex guitar work, interesting patterns, some electronica buried in the mix. Not quite animals as leaders, but definitely similar and you can see them from here.

Link is to the video, here’s the new album: https://youtu.be/ByaaQG0g1ZQ

Very atmospheric this one -

Maybe not his proggiest album but I'm still really enjoying PowerNerd and this is the highlight for me. It feels like the most lyrically direct album Devin has made in a good 20 years or more.

From the album Absolute Elsewhere.

Havent listened to much Blood Incantation but am finding this album a lot of fun.

Back at it again! Thanks for all the support on my other posts. I try not to spam every release here but I'm absolutely thrilled with the way this one came out, from the mix to the reception, this is one of my favorite videos so far.

Would absolutely love a comment/sub to keep my small channel growing!

I havent really had a chance to hear the new album but the first thing that registered were the use of the harsh vocals. (Note, havent heard in cauda much).

This Sputnik Review which contained the following:

  • He (Åkerfeldt) talks about it cynically in interviews, saying that it feels like the growls are all anybody ever cared about in the band’s music. And it seems like this is a little bit true, at least for some fans; for a lot of people, the first reaction to hearing “Paragraph 1” was to proclaim that Opeth is “finally back,.*

I dont know what reviews were referenced, but if true, just curious as to whether prog listeners agree that it was always about the growls... Lets face it metal fans can be heavily OTT with change.

Hey folks. Just finished a tab of the song "Superior" from Extol's incredible "Burial" album. Figured I'd share it here as I'm sure there's a few around here that know of Extol's greatness. If you want a .gp8 version of the file, just let me know.
