So, I've noticed this more as I've gotten deeper into piracy, but why do all the various programs installed through a fitgirl repack require administrator, even if they're installed for the user?
I may be dumb but it just always makes me a bit worried.

Edit: I do not mean the installation process, I'm talking about running the process once installed.

Yesterday I changed my ISP to one that allows port forwarding. Today the port forwarding has been enabled by the company and I set it up on the router.

After enabling it, my download and upload speed dropped from peaks of 50 MiB/s and valleys of 4-6 MiB/s to a very stable 2 MiB/s. Nothing else has changed in my qBittorrent configuration. If I close the ports again, the speed goes back to normal. I checked if the ports were open on various websites and all of them show that they are forwarded.

I was looking forward to be able to port forward and connect with every possible peer for years, and today has been a big disappointment in that regard!

Has anyone else seen something like this and if so, can you point me to the right direction to fix the problem?

Edit: Thanks everyone for your time and your help! Still working on it, but it's heartwarming to be on the receiving end of the goodwill of this community.

Sometimes I love the internet!

Order of events...

  1. Looked up IP
  2. Connected to Tailscale, set exit node through Mullvad
  3. Looked up IP again, was different
  4. Started seeding in the background while working on other stuff
  5. At one point I saw Tailscale icon flicker
  6. Later I got an angry email from my ISP with a timestamp that lined up

Been seeding for years, and this was my first leak. Was for a recent popular film (Linux ISO) that I've been seeding for a year. I contacted Tailscale support to express my concern. This is what they said...

Though we have an open feature request for this (link), I don’t believe there are current plans to add a killswitch to the client for Mullvad.

If this is something that is important to you, the quickest solution to this would be to purchase a Mullvad subscription directly from them, since their client has a number of features more geared towards tightening users online privacy – including a killswitch.

So I suggest not using Tailscale with Mullvad for such purposes. I don't think this is a priority for them. For other uses it's been fine.

I imagine this could have been avoided with a restrictive torrent client configuration, as is typically recommended online. I've tried and failed to get that working in the past. I'll try again once I change out my VPN. If you've been putting that off, learn from my mistake and look into it!

So, I stopped playing Minecraft when m$ acquired them. I refused to make a ms account. I had already bought the game twice under Mojang.

So, fuck Microsoft. How are you guys playing Mc with friends? Id like to load up my old (7 ish years) world again and play like the good times before ms ruined it all.

Am I stuck with mineclone?

Do you have a list of movies, games and whatnot to pirate this year?

I know I do, something to make the holidays a little more cheery since budgeting appears to be tight. I need something to make me somewhat happy.

Old multiplayer (lemmy.dbzer0.com)

So general solutions are welcome, but a friend and I are both craving the old blizzard RTS games. The problem is: fuck that company, and they probably use a rootkit anti-cheat anyway

So is there a general solution for multiplayer in old PC games without company support, and is there a particular solution for, say, starcraft2?

Hi I'm currently try to learn more about the history of piracy. I know that at some point I saved a very cool plain HTML website regarding that topic that was recommended here but I lost it :/ So now I hope you have cool sources. I'm only into the piracy since a couple of years so everything will be helpful.

The response was replied on December 29, 2024, at 4:13 a.m. on cs rin ru forum website on the “[Info] Final Fantasy VII: Remake Intergrade” post. After cracking this post software, which is the software uploaded by user Owla on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at 8:05 p.m. In the same space of the same post, copying and replacing in the location of that software, which is extracted in Final Fantasy VII Remake\Engine\Binaries\ThirdParty\Steamworks\Steamv153a\Win64\ the contents of the folder “crack[IMIne]” or something that means the same thing, which is located inside the folder obtained by extracting the file from the user aTEZ called: “FF7R ver 1.005 goldberg crack, manifest, clean api, complete save.rar”, you can perform this subsequent action, which consists of playing the software from the cs rin ru website to have mutual intercommunication software in story mode using the mod called: Hard On Normal by arthas1986?.

I am wondering how people are managing their Windows GOG games on Linux. Obviously the base game works fine on Steam Proton, but I run into trouble when I try to install DLC. If I add the addons to Steam, they can't see the base game, as they are a separate instance/container.

Is there some way I can get around this, and run the DLC installers in the same Proton instance as the base game? Is there another solution for managing Proton that isn't Steam, which allows this? A whole third option I haven't thought of?

Thank you.

I cannot find information anywhere. Sorry, English is my second language.

I possess a DVD and want to upload this as a torrent so others can download it.

I burn the media to my Linux PC using a media ripper. I use Handbrake to convert the media and small the file size.

I can create a torrent. But how do I insure none of my computer's personal information and identifiers are saved on that file? I dont want me to be found out if someone opens the file and somehow can see I'm the one who created it.

In other hand, how do the pirates create and upload media into torrents while protecting themself from being found out?

Edit: Corrected to Linux PC

I didn't think I'd spend hours reading about this today, but some things surprised me:

  1. Just using a Playstation sounds like it won't work or will be a huge time sink.
  2. Blu ray optical drives are way more expensive than I thought
  3. The copy protections on Blu rays are exceptionally annoying, to the extent where there is really only one closed source software -- MakeMKV -- that can work around them. This post goes into some interesting details.
  4. Finding a drive that is known to work with MakeMKV is a pain. There's a brand called Pioneer that seems promising but they have stopped producing bluray drives ~~went out of business last year~~. I have no idea which model works, and it's common that secondhand sellers will swap enclosures and pass it off as a different model.
  5. Sometimes you need to flash the firmware on the drive to make it work with 4K UHD discs.

I was going to try ripping a Blu-ray that I bought recently, since I couldn't find a quality rip anywhere, but I'm pretty turned off from the whole prospect at this point.

Anyway I'm not really asking for a specific reply, I just thought this topic was interesting and I'm curious what people think about Blu rays and optical media in general. Does the future seem bleak? Are we going to be stuck with shitty WebDLs for most new content? Or is physical media here to stay?

Maybe a silly question - but is it unwise to use Firefox for getting torrents, or saving any bookmarks in firefox? Is there benefit to using a private window (doubtful as I believe this only affects your device).

I know we generally can trust Firefox but they could turn quickly.
