Sync for Lemmy

Having a little anxiety here because this is by far the best app. I purchased a lifetime Ultra membership and it wasn't until I replaced my phone and couldn't restore it, did I find out the developer hasn't updated or posted in 2 years. (Somehow the Ultra got restored a couple days later).

I really hope the dev continued this, or issues a statement regarding the status. I also would pay for a version for Reddit (yeah I know, I just can't quit that completely yet)

Edit: thanks for the responses. So far, Voyager seems to be the closest to Sync and best alternative for me. Really sucks the dev just abandon this.

Trying to log in to my account here on lemmy.zip. I input the correct login details and I get a banner at the bottom that says "Invalid login".

I've successfully tested the credentials on lemmy.zip itself, and also Boost (which I'm using now). Both work fine.

Any idea what this issue could be? Love the look of Sync so will be disappointed if I can't use it :(

When scrolling through sync, theres an ad that makes an audible pop sound the moment its scrolled on, as if it were trying to play sound and it got the first millisecond or so out before the mute was applied. Its really annoying and i only started noticing it in the past couple days

That and no other app I have tried (most, if not all) seem to feature the level of post density I am used to.

I want my app to feel like old reddit did when I first joined (long before there was a new reddit).

I was able to as recently as yesterday. Has this happened to anyone else?

I know at this point the app is pretty much abandoned, but I've never needed too many features so have continued to use it. But not saving posts is a breaking point.

I like many among you loved sync and am frustrated with the bugs and lack of updates. It seems LJ has all but abandoned the app, so I did some looking around on the business of sync apps Ltd and can see from public records in the UK that he is keeping the business up to date. So it seems he is fine with collecting passive income from ad revenue.

@ljdawson@lemmy.world please just open source this app so the community can fix these bugs.

I myself have moved to thunder, very similar UX, lots of customization, and it's open source.

Title. I switched to a new phone and logged in, I cannot restore my purchases for Sync Pro to remove ads.

I seem to encounter this often while using Sync, and have so for the past couple of years. Not sure why it's taken until now to ask about it. The issue is always as shown here. I'll open a post, even one that I've interacted with and have received replies, but despite my efforts I can't get it to actually display the comments. This seems to happen completely at random, and perhaps as often as 1 in 8 posts. Comments work completely fine elsewhere.

Clicking "View post" via the prompt at the bottom makes no difference.

Any ideas?

My subscription renewal is coming up and I'm wondering how long it's been since he's contacted/replied to anyone

it says on the bottom "X posts hidden" but they are still in my feed

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app and it didn't fix it I don't even know what to start with to troubleshoot the problem... help appreciated

I'm reading many people complaining about the app being abandoned, not being updated for a long time.

Have you tried contacting the developer with your issues?

They last replied to a review on Google Play on 13th Jan 2025. Someone else also mentioned that they received a response via DM. So the developer is definitely still alive.

The app is free to use. It's great if you chose to support the developer by paying for the ad-removal or subscription. Unfortunately, I don't believe the user base is large enough to allow the developer to work on it full-time, or even part time.

Personally, I think Sync is a passion project, hence the original Reddit version was so good. The downside with passion projects is that you work on them when you have time and inspiration to work on them.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that all the negativity won't help inspire the developer to dedicate more time to the project.

It would be more helpful to compile a list of bugs and issues, and forward them to the developer.

Is there a way to set a default view everytime you switch back ti the app?

Let's say I was looking at porn and I forget to click away from it. The next time I open the app, it's front and Centre. I wouldn't mind having a setting where I could be okay with every time I switch back to the app, it reloads the home page.

Maybe it only comes on after a period of inactivity?

Sync for Lemmy could be one of the apps that's left behind once Lemmy reaches 1.0.0 🥺

The app doesn't recognize if i opened a post anymore or mark it as read. I can't filter out read posts.

The rebellion, Sync, is dying.

Maybe it didn't sell enough. And maybe you're making more money elsewhere.

That's cool. We, well, I understand. you're not in this because you hate free time, you're in this to make money. I get it.

But if that's the case, let us know, so we can mourn the death of sync and select another client.

Why am I paying for a subscription for an app that hasn't been updated in a year? When are we going to get an update?

I would love the ability to swipe left to downvote. Right to upvote or vice versa. Long swipes on each side would be a major bonus as well.
