Specifically, Mozilla plans to scale back its investment in a number of products, including its :

  • VPN
  • Relay
  • Online Footprint Scrubber.

Mozilla will also shut down Hubs, the 3D virtual world it launched back in 2018, and scale back its investment in its mozilla.social Mastodon instance. The layoffs will affect roughly 60 employees. Bloomberg previously reported the layoffs.

Going forward, the company said in an internal memo, Mozilla will focus on bringing “trustworthy AI into Firefox.” To do so, it will bring together the teams that work on Pocket, Content and AI/Ml.

Merci Ă  @Kuinox@lemmy.world pour l'info

Il faut arreter d’utiliser et de recommender “I don’t care about cookies”, ca a Ă©tĂ© rachetĂ© par avast, qui est un revendeur de donnĂ©e. A la place, pas besoin d’autre extensions, il faut juste correctement configurer uBlock Origin, et cocher les “Annoyances” dans les listes d’uBlock. Cela retire aussi les baniĂšres RGPD (donc ne les acceptes pas, contrairement a “I don’t care about cookies”);

Download Arctic on the AppStore!

I am thrilled to announce that Arctic is now available on the AppStore! Looking back, it's amazing to see how much progress Arctic has made in the last six months. Initially, I began working on Arctic as a personal project to fill the void after leaving Reddit during the API fiasco. I had no intention of releasing it publicly. Now, I have a fully-featured Lemmy client, a fantastic group of beta testers on TestFlight, and an official release on the AppStore.

However, the journey isn't over yet. I have many exciting plans for Arctic, and this is just a significant milestone. Going forward, I plan to release more targeted updates on TestFlight and create a public roadmap for AppStore releases.

I would like to thank everyone who was involved with Arctic's TestFlight for all the valuable feedback and suggestions that have helped shape Arctic!

The idea comes from the discussion that occurred over the new lemmy-clone or alternative, SubLinks and how its main feature is that its tech stack is different from lemmy's which should enable all of the developers who don't know rust to contribute.

One of the core lemmy devs (dessalines I believe) said responded to these general sentiments by saying something to the effect of rust being a good technical choice and that learning rust in order to contribute would be a good expenditure of time (as tech people need to learn new things all the time anyway).

Soooo ... for those interested ... how about we all learn together rust through learning about ActivityPub and Lemmy's codebase and solving problems and making contributions? We could have a community dedicated to asking questions, sharing solutions or ideas and generally discussing all things we're learning about rust, activitypub, fediverse and lemmy? If an actual community can be built around the desire to learn rust and give back to lemmy with all us newbs working together as much as posslbe ... that would have to be a win right?

Even better if those who know more about the topic could use the community as a chance to post or write up what they know for us to learn from. For instance, I've glanced at lemmy's code base (without knowing rust of course) and I feel like it could do with an architecture birds-eye perspective on how the code base works.

Obviously chatting on matrix might be a good place for this, especially as devs and admins are chatting there already ... but I feel like the structure of lemmy might be a better place for a sort of reading club.

Any thoughts or takers? I feel like creating the community on lemmy.ml would make sense, maybe having one of the core devs as a mod too?

Simply mention @aihorde@lemmy.dbzer0.com with the text "draw for me " and then the text that you would like it to draw and I will draw you an image matching your prompt, post it in this community and then reply with a link to each image! Optionally you can provide a "style:" as well. Example: [@aihorde@lemmy.dbzer0.com](https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/u/aihorde) draw for me a beautiful night style: fantasy

This is a chance for any users, admins, or developers to ask anything they'd like to myself, @nutomic@lemmy.ml , SleeplessOne , or @phiresky@lemmy.world about Lemmy, its future, and wider issues about the social media landscape today.

NLNet Funding

First of all some good news: We are currently applying for new funding from NLnet and have reached the second round. If it gets approved then @phiresky@lemmy.world and SleeplessOne will work on the paid milestones, while @dessalines and @nutomic will keep being funded by direct user donations. This will increase the number of paid Lemmy developers to four and allow for faster development.

You can see a preliminary draft for the milestones. This can give you a general idea what the development priorities will be over the next year or so. However the exact details will almost certainly change until the application process is finalized.

Development Update

@ismailkarsli added a community statistic for number of local subscribers.

@jmcharter added a view for denied Registration Applications.

@dullbananas made various improvements to database code, like batching insertions for better performance, SQL comments and support for backwards pagination.

@SleeplessOne1917 made a change that besides admins also allows community moderators to see who voted on posts. Additionally he made improvements to the 2FA modal and made it more obvious when a community is locked.

@nutomic completed the implementation of local only communities, which don't federate and can only be seen by authenticated users. Additionally he finished the image proxy feature, which user IPs being exposed to external servers via embedded images. Admin purges of content are now federated. He also made a change which reduces the problem of instances being marked as dead.

@dessalines has been adding moderation abilities to Jerboa, including bans, locks, removes, featured posts, and vote viewing.

In other news there will soon be a security audit of the Lemmy federation code, thanks to Radically Open Security and NLnet.

Support development

@dessalines and @nutomic are working full-time on Lemmy to integrate community contributions, fix bugs, optimize performance and much more. This work is funded exclusively through donations.

If you like using Lemmy, and want to make sure that we will always be available to work full time building it, consider donating to support its development. Recurring donations are ideal because they allow for long-term planning. But also one-time donations of any amount help us.

Merci
