Ye Power Trippin' Bastards

1556 readers
50 users here now

This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.

Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.

Posting Guidelines

All posts should follow this basic structure:

  1. Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
  2. What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
  3. Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
  4. Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
  5. Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.

Rules

Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.

Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.

YTPB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.

Kinda makes sense why he lied and deleted my comment for “genocide denial” previously. Makes it easier to ban someone down the line and have it seem justified. Apparently, I’m simultaneously denying a genocide and engaging in apologia.

Don’t forget everyone:

  1. Criticising a mod == genocide apologia.
  2. Disputing a regular poster to a mods comm about Hasan using his own clip == genocide denial.

Preemptively for all the idiots who played right into this guys hands last time, didn’t deny the genocide in Palestine and still don’t.

It is incredibly easy to accuse someone of being a genocide apologist if you want people to rally against them. I think there is some kind of human psychology thing there, where there is an "enemy" box that gets checked in the head which applies to that person, and then if they try to explain that they actually don't support or apologize for genocide, then it doesn't matter because that person's bad now, and they're lying.

You're all good. TokenBoomer is making wild accusations to be able to smear you, for reasons of their own, it seems pretty clear here.

Appreciate the reply as I was pretty frustrated by the responses I got. I even explicitly (in other comment and dm to Token) made it clear I don’t deny the genocide, made no difference. Anyway, thanks again.

I think there are a lot of accounts on Lemmy that make a little cottage industry out of making accusations of genocide apologia any time they want to vilify someone. I think they also have multiple accounts (or coordinate between themselves), so that it's a tide of people making the same bizarro-logic attack, which of course other people then join in on because groupthink. As you've experienced it is pretty effective. Chin up lad, you're fine, they're just being dishonest and vicious for whatever reasons of their own.
