i cannot for the life of me figure out why kaidan doesn't sync my chatrooms or let me join any new public ones. doesn't even give me an error, it just doesn't do it.
Sadly Kaidan currently only supports the MIX standard for group chats, which IMHO was a failed attempt to modernize the MUC standard (that every other XMPP app uses).
Years later the Kaidan devs have finally stopped being stubborn and have started adding MUC support, but it hasn't been released yet.
On a side note: a lot of the good ideas from MIX are now being integrated into a more gradual and backwards compatible evolution of the MUC standard called GC3.
thank you for explaining! i'm still relatively new to actually using XMPP so i don't really understand it all. i had gone into the kaidan chat a few weeks ago and learned that there isn't legacy OMEMO support and that it's low priority to implement, which i initially thought was my issue because i couldn't decrypt a message i had sent myself from conversations on android.
i mean, dino and gajim work but something about the designs of gtk apps bother me. i think it's the excess padding.
Lack of compatibility with older OMEMO versions that most other clients use is another issue of Kaidan, yes.
I am also very much looking forward to future versions of Kaidan, as I prefer KDE apps, but right now it is not that practical to use. Maybe by early next year it is worth trying again.
