I always get mixed up in these posts where MtF or FtM aren't specified lol. First read-through I thought the op had a MtF child, and the person buying the dress was being a dickhead.
Easy guide is just follow the first pronoun used. Unless it's from a douchebag, anyway
For whatever reason my brain always defaults to the well-intentioned parent that mistakenly refers to their child as "son" or "daughter" despite having transitioned to the other. I think it's because it's relatively recent that a parent would just say "my son" instead of "my transgender son" or "my daughter that goes by x", so when I see "my son" I assume they slipped.
Yeah I get that, I usually have to reread it a time or two to make sure I understand exactly what's being said. I don't want my middle aged brain to get confused, I'm dumb enough as it is.
