Soulslike - Discussion, News, Memes

This is a community for discussion, news, and memes pertaining to the video game sub-genre "soulslike".

Given Lemmy's size, the definition of soulslike may be treated relatively loosely. While games like the numerous FromSoft titles, the recent Star Wars Jedi games, Lies of P, Nioh and similar games should be the focus, games that incorporate soulslike elements - like Hollow Knight and Blasphemous, for example - may also be discussed here.

Basic Lemmy-quette applies. Additionally, since flairs don't exist yet, please do make sure to include a marker to denote what game your post is about in square brackets for clarity's sake. An example could be:

[BB] This enemy is so difficult!

or

[DS1] Anyone struggling with the gargoyles?

I've known that Berserk was a major influence behind the souls games, but I just recently started reading Claymore and noticed a few things that seemed like inspirations. The Puzzle Sword makes an appearance, and there's a character named Priscilla, but I figured that those could be coincidences. Well the setting just changed to the town called Lautrec and I don't think it's coincidence anymore lol. Does anyone know of any other works that are such a direct inspiration to the souls games? I'd love to read more. (Also Berserk and Claymore are both fantastic and I highly recommend both of you enjoy manga. Also also I haven't finished Claymore yet so please no spoilers.)

Elric of Melniboné stories by Micheal Moorcock are very likely inspiration too, a lot of similar themes.

Looking at it on Wikipedia, he keeps himself alive by eating herbs which definitely gives me DeS vibes, plus the general setting seems very much the dark fantasy vibe of the souls series. I'll check out the actual stories for more. Thanks for the recommendation!
