Just curious with the Fields debate. Has there ever been a QB mid-way through their 3rd year or later with so much uncertainty develop into a reliable starting QB? Alex Smith comes to mind but obviously wasn’t good enough to keep his position.

Jared Goff is another good example of a guy who has had ups and downs. He was awful his rookie year. Had a couple pretty good years under McVay and then was considered awful again and shipped off to Detroit. He was terrible when he was first there and now is more than serviceable.

I think this example just shows how much the coaching and supporting cast matter. Fields clearly has talent. A decent coach should be able to get something out of him. Getsy has shown he can do that when it seems he “wants” to. It’s just mind blowing sometimes when he clearly goes away from his QBs strengths. He did this with Bagent in the Saints game too.
