All I know is Andy Reid has only won the award 1 time and that was back in 2002. While a mediocre coach in Ron Rivera has won it 2x. Too often the award goes to a new coach who gets their team to overachieve and does not recognize sustained excellence. That’s how a coach like Dabolll won it last year despite a pedestrian 9-7-1 overall record and finishing the regular season going 2-5-1.
COTY is kind of a stupid award. The best coach rarely actually wins it. It's like if the MVP award went to the player who had the most unexpectedly good season.
