After reading the umpteenth rage-filled diatribe about a group I care about and belong to, I wanted to hear others' experiences dealing with bigotry.

Maybe not exactly what you meant, but...

I live in Texas. Everyone thinks we're all gun-toting, racist, religious fanatics. Most of us are not. Precinct lines are drawn to keep it red. Voting totals across the state are really fairly close. I think the 2020 election was 54-46%. Even many Texans believe the propaganda and don't vote because they think their vote won't matter.
