Issue is that we've had the situation before where a very active mod from another instance taints the whole community. It happened with Blahaj that the 196 mod was a complete lib and kept accusing us of nonsense, the Blahaj admin couldn't get the situation under control so we had to defed. This situation is even worse TBH, because while the Blahaj admin was fairly cooperative, here we have the admin of dbzer0 going after one of our users in DMs. That's over the line in my book.
iirc the most pertinent issue with blahaj was abetting chasers, i.e. a moderation pattern that puts our trans users in a bad position (however much I also hate blahaj's tankiejerk shit). This is not a moderation pattern, it's a pattern of personal behavior from one obsessive that now does not directly affect us, and the ripple effect of the one obsessive should be negligible based on past experience. In my view, that "taint" you are talking about is a phantasm in this case.
it's also worth noting that the main blahaj admin has said she'd consider refederating to reverse the fracturing of trans communities once there's proper user level instance blocking (of users as well as comms unlike what lemmy has rn) and if hexbear blocked the 196 comm so that the admins wouldnt have to moderate 196 users complaining about seeing real communists who dont just hold identical foreign policy positions to
and they wouldnt have to deal with hexbear users going onto 196 and getting into slapfights over there
ok, i was just going off something i saw ada mention off hand a while ago in one of the threads with users on blahaj being pissy about hexbear again
