A place to discuss and support all Steam Hardware, including Steam Deck, Steam Machine, Steam Frame, and SteamOS in general.

As Lemmy doesn't have flairs yet, you can use these prefixes to indicate what type of post you have made, eg:

If your post is only relevant to one hardware device (Deck/Machine/Frame/etc) please specify which one as part of the title or by using a device flair.

These are not enforced, but they are encouraged.

Rules:

Follow the rules of Sopuli
Posts must be related to Steam Hardware or Steam OS in an obvious way.
No piracy, there are other communities for that.
Discussion of emulators are allowed, but no discussion on how to illegally acquire ROMs.
This is a place of civil discussion, no trolling.

Firewatch blank screen on launch (lemmy.world)

I just bought Firewatch, always wanted to play it and the sale price was really good. It's also rated as confirmed on steamdeck, but it won't launch for me. Does it work for others? Any idea of what I can do, or support I can get for it? Or should I just request a refund and be sad?

I occasionally have a game that suddenly won't launch. You can try verifying the files.

Usually I have to restart, even if I just powered up the SD. Sometimes launching another game (like some simple platformer) then exiting and starting up the game will work.

I wish there were some easier way to see logs or output from failed launches.

If you're wanting logs for a game that's originally for windows and is running through proton, you can add PROTON_LOG=1 %command% to your launch options in steam game properties. It will generate a log file in your home folder.

By chance It Takes Two decided it would not start shortly after this post. I tossed in the log command and it got my log file. lol. 8 can't make yeada nor tails of it.

I verified files, rebooted several times, change proton versions and nothing worked.

On a whim I launched it in desktop mode and it fired up. And it now launches in game mode as well.

I love the SD but it is so temperamental!
