A lot of good suggestions here. I miss /r/Formula1, but that’s probably too niche for Beehaw at this point. That got me thinking along the lines of “motorsports,” with would be nice and broad. A wildcard option is “livesports” where people can discuss, well, sports that are live. Live threads when watching live sports are fun.
VFX (As in Visual Effects).
Something like Tinkering or Skillshare for hobbies that have a pretty large degree of trial and error where asking questions for help with them may be useful such as 3D Printing, raspberry pi, Arduino, etc.
The redditlist seems to be offline - taking part in the protest, I guess. So, looking at a recent archived version, we could always make sure we've duplicated the biggest subs, for a start. WorldNews definitely fits that bill.
Looking at what had the most subscribers in 2014 it doesn't look like things have changed much - gaming, news, funny, videos, science. News for nerds. Most all of those have been covered here, but I think it would be prudent to cover all the bases.
Also, are we going to have local communities? Jeez, "communities" is a lot of typing. Subs is 5 characters. Local "comms"? Sounds like a Hawkwind song...
I think most of the suggestions here are wonderful and as long as everything is kept positive I think it should attract the right communities to thrive.
I know there has been some posts of wanting an Archery community, but at the same time the conversations I've seen have also wondered about the widespread appeal of it, and the plan (if a main community isn't created) is to keep posting in sports until (if) there is enough interest.
