The important thing is she didn't die from the Cartels. Do you know how many politicians have been taken out by cartels in the last year. Just recently in April down in Chipas a cartel got 538 politicians to resign all on the same day and murdered 38.
To be a politician in Mexico from any party you need blessings from the right people.
Guessing she's still around because the cartels want her around. Not sure how good this is.
