I really enjoy the OST for the Hotline Miami games. If it's your thing it goes pretty hard.
Patient Gamers
A gaming sub free from the hype and oversaturation of current releases, catering to gamers who wait at least 12 months after release to play a game. Whether it's price, waiting for bugs/issues to be patched, DLC to be released, don't meet the system requirements, or just haven't had the time to keep up with the latest releases.
Undertale in case you haven't played it yet... you've played it, right?
zero escape. going in blind is a must. at least 999 had really banger music and nice puzzles and story. 999 also had its story made for the 3DS, so it's best if you play it on a DS emulator. it's also similar to danganronpa at least stylistically, and makoto has a zero escape logo on his hoodie
bloons td maybe. the music might not be that good but they're still bangers
Loop Hero
The Sam & Max games by Telltale have an absolute banger jazz soundtrack
Bionic commando remake
All of the doom remakes
Timberborn
For honor
Jet set radio future
For those who are already LoZ fans, Cadence of Hyrule will get your toes tapping for sure.
I feel like I'm a little old school in this thread compared to most other replies, but idgaf:
Castlevania: Symphony of the night has the best soundtrack ever, or maybe on par with the first three Silent Hills and its just an awesome game
Also Alundra. Great story, great soundtrack, great everything.
- Paradise Killer
- River City Girls 1
- River City Girls 2
- Enderal (the entire soundtrack is good but maybe not bangers, just good story)
Wait the suggestion of Jet Set Radio made me think
- Gran Turismo
- Twisted Metal
- Cool boarders
Now those are some classics, time to break out the PS2
OMFG RCG BULLY SONG HITS SO HARD OMGGGG. Okay whishlisthed automatically. Thank you!
I love the soundtrack of The Talos Principle
Sea of Stars had some really catchy tunes.
Cult of the lamb
FTL: Faster Than Light
This is all going to be "great gameplay" rather than "great story".
If you have a way to play 3DS games and a tolerance for punishment in your JRPG dungeon crawlers, the Etrian Odyssey series has some of Yuzo Koshiro's best work.
-
When you hit something more serious for the first time, you get this instead.
-
And, uh, there's this memorable remix of the wandering-boss theme from the first game.
You already have Persona games in your list, but let's add some more Shin Megami Tensei:
Finally ... Monster Hunter is an incredibly fun and addictive game series, and though it doesn't center the music quite as much as a typical JRPG does, it's got some great stuff. I particularly like the soundtrack of MH: World -- although the newer game MH: Rise tried something new with its mostly choral arrangements, I think they are not quite as memorable overall.
-
Arena battle from Monster Hunter: World (it's particularly impressive the way this theme, the small-monsters arena battle theme, and several of the town themes reuse the same melodies in different arrangements)
DUSK
- The Yakuza/Like A Dragon series. You can get good sales on the mainline games if you wait.
- Based on your 1st bullet, gonna assume you already played Ace Attorney/Great Ace Attorney.
I have absolutely jammed to the original Unreal Tournament (UT’99) soundtrack on my commute.
Some games with soundtracks I particularly enjoyed over the last couple years:
- A Hat in Time - a cute, fun collect-a-thon platformer with a kickass soundtrack. This one is particularly fun to play and hits nostalgia vibes for the early 3D Mario games.
- Shantae and the Seven Sirens - 2D platformer with an energetic chiptune-y soundtrack. The game itself is OK, but the soundtrack is what really made this one for me.
- Paradise Killer - vaporwave inspired surreal murder mystery
- Subnautica - underwater survival and crafting game with a soundtrack that set the mood very well
- Demons Roots - 18+ RPGMaker game where you lead a demon uprising to reclaim the surface world, invading country after country freeing slaves as you go. Very dark game that is unusually good for the type of game it is. If you're not put off by the RPGMaker doujin wabi-sabi and are tolerant of adult content in games this one is worth a look. There are some absolute bangers in the soundtrack.
- Pyre - Lord of the Rings meets 3v3 basketball with a very enjoyable soundtrack by Darren Korb (Bastion).
My choices are the following:
- Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor - Good guitar riffs and it fits the mood of the game
- Brutal Legend - Lots of music, lots. Ozzy Osbourne is in the game
- Final Fantasy 8 - I think it had a memorable soundtrack
- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - The original radio stations were great in this game.
- Hotline Miami (obviously)
- Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven - a serious one but still slaps
- Subnautica - when you sub is on fire
- TES: Oblivion
- Lineage 2, I especially like the Dion theme. It's an old MMORPG though so when it comes to the question of a great story and/or gameplay... well I wouldn't recommend it lol. Even though I've spent a lot of hours in that game
Mighty Switch Force is apparently really fun. The music is like candy. Same composer as Shovel Knight -- Jake Kaufman.
Undertale, love the Temmie Village song. The OST can be heard in all kinds of videos. Maybe since you liked ULTRAKILL (based on graphics), you'll like Undertale.
NieR:Automata is an absolute banger. It has a banger of a soundtrack and a really great story. I personally love the park area and the forest.
Subnautica, the OST, really helps to create an immersive experience. It is sometimes mysterious, it can be dark but also adventurous. The music kind of guides you through the uncharted lands.
The Legend of Zelda: BotW I know, it's a WIIU/Switch game, and I know TotK is out, but the design and the music of the game are fitting so well together. The OST is so incredible.
