Women only trans inclusive This is an inclusive community for all things women. Whether you're here for make up tips, feminism or just friendly chit chat, we've got you covered.

Rules…

  1. Women only… trans women are women, and transphobic or gender critical talk isn’t allowed. Anyone under the trans umbrella (e.g. non-binary, bigender, agender) is free to decide whether a women's community is a good fit for them.
  2. Don’t be a dick. No personal attacks, no aggression, play nice.
  3. Don’t hate on groups, hatefilled talk about groups is not allowed. Ever.
  4. No governmental politics, so no talk of Trump actions etc. We recommend Feminism@beehaw.org for that, but here is an escape from it.
  5. New accounts or users with few comments may have their posts removed to prevent spam and bad-faith participation.

Losing an advantage that you were told was an entitlement can feel like something has been taken.

Yep!! I see this all the time with MRAs they think they're being oppressed and stripped of rights because they really believe they're entitled to their privilege

[–] ZDL@lazysoci.al 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

So they should be angry with the people who lied to them, not the ones telling them the truth.

[–] celeste@kbin.earth 4 points 2 weeks ago

They should be, but it's easier to blame a group that's marginalized. Ego protecting, even. It wasn't that she was better in any way that she got the job. Must be DEI.

I agree. Most men have never had their privilege properly challenged. Many have never even recognized they have privilege. I think that feminism, which is more focused on equality and raising women up, makes them feel threatened.

I mean, no matter how unjst that advantage is, feminism is aiming to take that advantage away.

I'd argue feminism is still a pretty large net gain for men. But I doubt the "I hAtE fEmErNsM" crowd would be willing to hear those arguments.

That's a really good way of putting it. Plus they sometimes feel as an individual they're being criticised

Scarcity mindset hurts us all. Toxic media for men is geared toward people who are already struggling, tells them women want to take what little they have left. Too bad it's a strategy that works.

People gotta read Belle Hooks. Feminism is for everyone.

I agree. Feminism is about choice and opportunity and equal standing. If a man doesnt want to let any women have that, theyre a problem.

Absolutely. Any man claiming to hate feminism either doesn't know what feminism is, or does know and doesn't like being reined in on being an asshole.

I don't necessarily agree because I think a lot of men are short sighted about how patriarchy can negatively affect them. That said, men hating feminism is still a big red flag. I don't feel safe around them. It's not like I think "oh this person has been duped, they're actually not bad." Idk if that makes sense. Like the same way I think Fox News viewers are brainwashing but still not necessarily great people to be around.

Edit: I agree that feminism takes only bad things away from men.

True feminism does take things away from men. But it's things they should not have in the first place. Like having double the power to vote. Making more money. Getting to boss around others. When you "take away" slaves from a master, the master loses their slaves. Another word is to free the slaves. The master will be less powerful than before.

However,
in recent years parts of the movement have flipped from a pro stance on womens rights to male oppression. Let me explain what I mean here.
A few years ago my little brother was bored at school and we were told that he should do some MINT stuff. Alright, we have groups for that, so we went and looked at available courses. Well shit, turns out because a lot of these groups want a good image, they make a lot of female only courses, especially in male dominated fields. The result was, that he was often not able to do what he really wanted and had to settle for something that gave him less. Instead of learning how to design and build a (little) machine, he went on to sequence some DNA. I see this in school and some other places as well.
As it is, GENDER equality doesn't really benefit from strengthening one gender over another. It gets even more complicated with the less binary genders from LGBTQ, which will probably be the next to get oppressed, though I sure hope not. I know this touches on issues that are technicall not what real feminism is, but it's been coined that a lot, so here we are. Instead of separating us by building female-only train wagons, couldn't we just have security? Instead of fighting, that women should be paid the same as men, couldn't we just say everybody gets the same? That's where I would like to be.

Yep, the only thing feminism "takes away" is the things that made men think they're our betters. Turns out, when you've built an identity on your own sense of superiority, having the playing field leveled by elevating everyone else feels a lot like losing.

I do agree. Doesn't take anything away from men that was theirs to take in the first place. Just trying to lift women up doesn't squash anyone down.
