TranscriptionA picture of a tortoiseshell cat lying on a step of a staircase. The staircase is covered with carpet that matches the cat’s coat color, making the cat blend in completely. Caption reads “I almost trip over her every time I go up the stairs.”

Kitty needs a high viz vest when operating on those stairs

I used to step on my sister’s tiny dog every time I visited. She purchased rugs in exactly the same texture and color as her tiny mop of a pooch, and the poor thing loved sleeping on them. She’d litter them about hallways and walking paths and I’d forget to check for the little deaf doofus. It was cute watching him disappear into the landscape, but I never thought to offer the suggestion that she should perhaps not hide ten pounds of animal within trampling zones.

Took me a bit to notice there was a cat there 😂

Camouflage is the key to good hunting

For fuck's sake, change the damn carpet

The only acceptable solution!

Torties are so perfectly camouflaged. You can see a black cat in the garden at night because they’re darker than everything else. I can’t see my girl until she starts moving.

I learned to spot my tortie at night by looking for her in the places in which there is apparently absolutely nothing to see.

She’s in her ancestral environment, or at least a good approximation of it.

My orange cat loves to do this on the stairs, I've almost stepped on him multiple times going down, and consequently have almost fallen down the stairs each time. Thankfully I've caught myself each time but I might not one day
