A place to meme about the glorious ROMAN EMPIRE (and Roman Republic, and Roman Kingdom)! Byzantines tolerated! The HRE is not.

RULES:

  1. No racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, bigotry, etc. The past may be bigoted, but we are not.

  2. Memes must be Rome-related, not just the title. It can be about Rome, or using Roman aesthetics, or both, but the meme itself needs to have Roman themes.

  3. Follow Piefed.social rules.

Surely at some point the colosseum was... Not in ruins?

Interestingly enough, they built it that way because those dastardly Romans knew it would be more iconic that way.

Livy wrote "bro, relinque imperfectum et prospiciet super Instagram" on the subject.

Always worried about their legacy, that lot!

Didn't Elagabalus supposedly put effort into repairing it?

Almost every Emperor notes a dozen different structures in Rome they repaired. Not to downplay the repairs - but generally this is more "After a hundred years, wear and tear is starting to take its toll, we had to replace a few columns for safety reasons and re-plaster most of the walls" than "We had to rebuild entire segments which had collapsed"

Built for retro appeal 🙏

(You are correct, of course - much of the Colosseum's damage happened after an earthquake in the 14th century AD)
