I like Sanders, and think he could have been a terrific peacetime president in a better timeline. Unfortunately, I suspect we will need to shed blood and lose many innocent lives in order to get somewhere decent now.

We need a leader who is willing to fight, and to sacrifice lives like mine, to create a future.

[–] wampus@lemmy.ca 9 points 4 hours ago

Meh, good luck to Bernie and similar minded Americans.

But as a Canadian, I ain't going to America again, and I'm doing everything I can to get off of American products.

Like the news in America is currently going on about Trump's comments about nationalizing elections, and how people are afraid he may try to meddle in their elections. As though he hadn't tried to lead a violent insurrection when he lost last time around. Most of them seem to want to watch it all burn, and are willing to follow a convicted felon, alleged child rapist, and "prolific" pant shitter to see it happen. They're willing to shrug off Musk's Nazi salutes, and the epstein stuff is just a side-show without any real accountability for anyone involved. They're openly attacking other western democracies and attempting to undermine THEIR OWN ALLIES national security, while making absolutely bullshit claims about their neighbours causing "national security emergencies" by having trade deficits. It's utterly fucking absurd.

It should be really simple. You don't attack your allies. But Americans are too stupid to even figure that one out it seems. So idk, I think Bernie may be dreaming of an America that doesn't exist anymore. But best of luck to em.

Bernie. Honestly. The US is fucked. You know it always been fucked. It’s waaaaaay past the point of no return.

The wealthy are not playing for the same team.

They don't care if the country goes to shit they can just leave and find somewhere else nice to be. They would sell the country for a dollar and just go to Switzerland or whatever.

[–] Ibisalt@lemmy.world 3 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago) (2 children)

lol, you dont know swiss people. if they would come here, openly fuck around with elections, our direct democracy or state and personal rights, they would have a bad time. no matter the money.

[–] SabinStargem@lemmy.today 2 points 15 minutes ago

Seeing the Swiss Guard executing Musk and company would please me, I must admit.

[–] QuandaleDingle@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

PLEASE come and fuck with US! It would actually be interesting! Preferable, even. XD

[–] krashmo@lemmy.world 3 points 10 hours ago

I wish they would

...it is not good enough just to be critical of Trump and his destructive policies.

(Thought that was a good addition from the article, left out of the subtitle.)

Here are just a few of the issues that must be addressed:

  1. We must create a vibrant democracy by ending Citizens United and preventing billionaires from buying elections.

  2. Whether the Democratic establishment likes it or not, we must guarantee healthcare as a human right through Medicare for All.

  3. We must build millions of affordable homes and apartments and give our younger generation the opportunity to own a home of their own.

  4. We must make public colleges, universities, trade schools and medical schools tuition-free and have the best childcare and public school system in the entire world.

  5. We must expand social security and bring back traditional pension plans so that every senior in this country can retire with dignity.

  6. We must raise the minimum wage to a living wage and guarantee every worker the right to join a union.

  7. We must demand that the wealthiest people and most profitable corporations in America pay their fair share in taxes.

[–] SabinStargem@lemmy.today 1 points 11 minutes ago

I think we have to start over. We aren't one people anymore, nor is our society fit for a modern world. There is just too many structural issues in our politics and economy, that can't be addressed by gentle reform anymore.

[–] bluegreenpurplepink@lemmy.world -3 points 2 hours ago

That's a great list and all, but this is the guy who urged revolution and then turned tale and ran away three times and three times told us to vote for people who would never give us even a fraction of one of these things on this list. I was all in for him, but he let us down bad.

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world -4 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

That's cool but how are you going to do it?

[–] compostgoblin@piefed.blahaj.zone 15 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

By building a movement that demands it

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world -2 points 10 hours ago

I mean concrete actions

[–] Bonesince1997@lemmy.world 4 points 9 hours ago

I don't know. Some of these points seem like discussion enders for many people. I suppose all I can think about is what I will do.

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 35 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

So many "no shit" policies that we should have already been doing for decades, stymied as per usual by monied interests. Disgusting.

[–] GhostPain@lemmy.world 6 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Both parties only do what their masters tell them to do. It isn't their fault, man. They are helpless. It's the systems fault. /s (just so no one gets confused)

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 18 points 13 hours ago (3 children)

Why do I keep seeing people on here call Bernie a liberal zionist?

[–] LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net 27 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

I think he supports 2 state solution, right? So some people consider that a form of Zionism. Which seems a bit questionable because I believe that has also been Hamas's position for the last few years, although they don't call it that.

Maybe there's more to it. To be honest I'm not overly worried about the exact positions of one of the more outspoken critics of Israel in congress. I'd much rather focus my ire on its defenders, which are many.

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 3 points 11 hours ago

He don't believe that zionism is a colonial project and said that bds is antisemitic

[–] BenderRodriguez@lemmy.world 18 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago) (2 children)

This is Lemmy. There are extreme left here. So left that they kind of horseshoe back towards the right again.

Also, I've definitely seen your username here for a while. I'm sure you know this by now.

[–] GhostPain@lemmy.world 4 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

Horseshoe theory is a psyop. It's not a thing.

[–] ExFed@programming.dev 4 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Unsure if edgy sarcasm or ML propaganda... Please disambiguate.

[–] GhostPain@lemmy.world -4 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

No more ML propaganda than the idea of horseshoe theory is CIA propaganda.

Also, ML propaganda? lol

Are still counting your age using "teen" at the end?

[–] ExFed@programming.dev 3 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Thanks for disambiguating! :)

[–] GhostPain@lemmy.world -3 points 8 hours ago

Di nada.

Also, no reason to use your 25 cent word of the day more than once. No one is impressed twice by its use.

[–] BenderRodriguez@lemmy.world 3 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Why did you just say that?

[–] ExFed@programming.dev 3 points 7 hours ago

Best guess? They're either truly dedicated satirists, gone off the metamodernist deep end into deep post-irony, or they've genuinely decided that modernist Grand Narratives weren't really all that bad (let's just ignore all the atrocities they brought about). After all, far-left modernist narratives aren't at all like those other, far-right modernist narratives! They're different, just like everybody else who is selling a utopia (that's only practically attainable through an authoritarian regime).

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 1 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

That's a Ken M type account. Go with it.

[–] BenderRodriguez@lemmy.world 2 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

I used to play golf with Ken M.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 2 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Did he bring tree branches instead of clubs?

Are you sure? Because it's Ken M.

[–] BenderRodriguez@lemmy.world 3 points 10 hours ago (1 children)
[–] GhostPain@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago

Now you got it. :D

[–] Hayduke@lemmy.world 12 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Well, we are certainly gaining enough downhill momentum to get us back up somewhere.

[–] GhostPain@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

Feeling the need to explain how free fall works right now.

[–] GhostPain@lemmy.world 8 points 12 hours ago

Cool so Dems are going to stop suing viable 3rd parties off the ballots, eliminate the billionaire class and disband?

Because that's about the only way THAT is going to happen.
