But at 140W? or 240W ?

[–] AWildDragon@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The USB ports now support USB PD 3.1 so you can fast charge the 16” via USB C now.

Meh, charging with USB-C is already pretty fast anyway, nice to have but nothing major

We sure it's not a Chinese laptop lol

[–] Horace3210@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

What does that have to do with chinese

So what's the point of MageSafe port?

[–] rugbyj@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Just anecdotal, but aside from testing it out of the box, I've never used the MagSafe on my M series MBP.

It's docked via USBC majority of the time, or if I'm out/around the house I'm not carting a proprietary cable with me I'll just use an existing USBC cable which will be used for other items too.

I should probably hop off reddit for the next couple weeks after getting an M1 Max this April 😭

[–] Lancaster61@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Try getting the M2 Max 2.5 weeks ago. I’m literally 5 days over the return window.

Jk, I don’t really care. I knew the M3 was around the corner when I bought mine. I got the M2 Max for a single purpose: to develop for the Vision Pro. It’s going to be enough for that for like the next 6-7 years.

[–] cocothepops@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Fully agree that your M2 Max is a beast that will do the job for years, but it’s worth asking Apple anyway - I’ve heard of them swapping in cases like this.

[–] BoonesFarmYerbaMate@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I just bought the M3 Max but tbh if I already had an M1 Max I wouldn't be too jealous; it's not a game changer like people (including me) were hoping

maybe by M4 the 3nm process will be stable and they can really crank up performance

[–] Aotrx@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

but why fast charge? just plug it at night. Fast charging = more heat = faster battery health degradation. Mac batteries are expensive to replace

Just bought and M2 Max - selling and moving up - great machine but am future proofing a bit while I can. Who knows what’s gonna happen tomorrow.

For those that didn’t click the link…

Apple's latest 16-inch M3 MacBook Pro models are able to fast charge at 140W over USB-C with a 240W USB-C cable

USB C 60w 240w charge cable 2021 and 2022 16-inch MacBook Pro models with M-series [have] … USB-C ports offering only up to 100W.

So it is now 140W vs 100W on prior models.

The 240W is only about the Apple cable.
