Got tired of waiting for Google to give it all out on their latest Pixel 8. so i dropped them like a hot potato and switched to iPhone. No regrets. Owned Pixel 2XL to Pixel 7. I say, bye bye Pixel!
Apple
A place for Apple news, rumors, and discussions.
I don’t feel like buying all the apps on all the platforms. I like iMessages. And I like I’m apples customer not some mfg like Samsung to android.
It. Just. Works.
Spoken by an android fan at heart. Who carries a secondary phone which is android. Currently a moto Razr and nothing phone 2. About to get a Oneplus open
Nothing works like and iPhone. 15 pro in this case.
I had Android from the beginning until my 14PM last year, and now 15PM. I’ll never go back. Everything about this phone is better than any Android I’ve ever owned. Top to bottom.
At the time, iPhone was the only smart phone on the market. So my choice was simple. And I haven't seen any reason to change since then.
I am a cheep hardware trailing edge of technology kind of guy. I am also a systems security guy that insists everything be up to date on security patches. I bought a trailing edge Motorola Android phone years ago.
The carrior stopped providing updates after about 18 months. I learned that carrior provisioned phones couldn't be easily updated. Bought a trailing edge model iPhone (6s I believe just after iPhone 8 came out). It was supported much longer and the wife went iPhone as well.
Here I am a few years later still on the trailing edge rocking my 3 year old 12 mini.
Used Google phones for a decade. Was using the flagship Google Pixel at the time (I think it was the 3) and it died on me after 4 weeks. It was just sitting on the charger. Couldn't even safe boot it or anything. That was the 3rd dead phone that year. When I tried to contact Google to have it dealt with I found out their warranty stuff was farmed out to a third party. I was done.
I switched to iPhone and haven't looked back.
It’s the only product that my pilot apps work with. But it’s the best phone for me.
build quality and the fact that an iphone remains usable for years after an equivalent android phone
Ecosystem, interface, camera quality.
The only interface I liked with androids was the LG G series. Then I cracked my LGs screen and repair took forever and a lot of money.
For me as a former android user: iPhone seems more reliable, stable and better quality over all, also a big part of the choosing was camera quality to use on social media, and accessibility to some apps that are exclusive on the iOS.
I tried Google Pixel. For some reason, Apple can pull it off, but Google’s attempt of their own ecosystem is garbage. I’m not a big fan of having to use Google everything, and since it’s a Google phone, it rams it down your throat.
I was told Samsung does this as well, but the versatility of DnD on iOS is S-tier in my opinion. On the Google Pixel, you can only either have everyone contact you, your favorites contact you, or nobody contact you. That doesn’t work for me. However, with iPhone, I can specifically have the standard DnD and a work mode. That way, at work, the only notifications I’m getting are work related, and the notifications I’m getting at home aren’t work related.
Then the calendar app is designed in a unique way that, for some reason, is nowhere to be found on Android’s default apps.
I was originally using an iPhone SE 2nd gen just because I was curious. Decided to switch back to my pixel as the battery life was abhorrent, and the screen was small. If you have ever seen that one scene from Rick and Morty, where Morty experienced a truly level floor, and when he was ripped away from it, everything felt crooked to him? That’s how I felt. So I switched back to the SE, and after deliberating on whether I should get the 15 PM, I upgraded to it, and have not had a regret.
It came to me in a dream.
It works and lasts a long time
I started on the iPhone 3G. And while I've never owned an Android as a daily driver, I've certainly had to use them or support staff or customers at work who needed assistance doing something on them.
To me, iPhones are just about as easy as you'll find, yet still have a lot of capability.
Sure, modding the phone back in the day with Jailbreaking was cool and fun to do, but the iPhone kept adding features that I was getting through JB, so it just was no longer worth the hassle of not only going through the process, but then also not being able to update the phone with security fixes.
I like the quality of the build, the fact that the phone basically doesn't crash (I remember back in the 4 days, trying to run tons of apps at the same time, and the phone just wouldn't slow down enough to be noticeable), and of course the ecosystem is great - I got the iPad the year it came out, and only last year did I finally decide to get the Apple Watch, and that's been great for tracking my health in general, as well as being useful at work.
Im used to IOS
Never even tried android and am invested into eco system. Would like to try an android tho
Because the car I bought in ‘21 only had CarPlay.
Because it just works.
It all started for me with the iPod touch when I was in middle/high school. I was absolutely in love with that thing. My parents would not allow me to have a smartphone so that was the next best thing that I could have.
When iOS 5 came out and iMessage and FaceTime were a thing, I thought it was so cool that I could text and call my friends on my iPod!
A bit later when I got a job, my first smartphone was a Windows phone. While I did enjoy it, I eventually ended up missing the UI of iOS. Every phone after that was an iPhone and I haven’t looked back since. I am fully invested in the ecosystem and it’s been nothing short of great.
Tl;dr - it started with my love for the iPod touch.
Just the sheer optimisation and smoothness, android tends to lag in 1-2 years, sure an iPhone might get a bit slow too but it doesn't lag when it gets old
I went from Blackberry to the OG iPhone and haven’t looked back.
It simply works.
Android was too fragmented last time I used it.
Because I got sick of beta testing for google. They release 5 apps with there same purpose and functions (messages, hangouts, voice, google play music, YouTube music, etc) then they kill it.
Android auto was a mess. Wouldn’t play nice with my car.
Got tired of having to tinker with my phone to make it work.
Wanted updates after 2 years.
I recently switched after over a decade on Android. As an enthusiast I guess I can offer a little perspective here on my experience and what I hoped to get out of it. Probably gonna try to summarize this as shortly as possible and it will be super unstructured but if anyone has questions feel free to drop them. I really enjoy talking about the differences between the platforms and so far the experience of switching over has been really interesting, and mostly pretty easy.
My immediate family of four was split between two iPhones and two Android phones. We had the typical issues with sending pictures, messages going through... while I as a power user have a solution to basically anything I could want to do on Android those things aren't practical for my family members who aren't as technical as I am. "Upload it to google photos, hit share, copy the link, go to messages..." doesn't really stick with everyone. "Just text it to me" is what works.... but only if I'm on an iPhone.
There are still some things about iOS and the iPhone that simply annoy the crap out of me - I can get to those later. The bottom line is that most of the things I viewed as dealbreakers in the past have either been fixed or improved, and some of those things... eh, they're not dealbreakers anymore. I haven't rooted any Android devices in like three years. I'm not that much of a power user anymore. Frankly mobile apps and development have come far enough that you don't really need to be a super user to accomplish a lot of things you used to.
And the biggest dealbreaker was of course the port. I really thought they would never do it. Even when the EU order was announced I figured Apple would invent some crazy new charging method or just go magsafe only. I thought hell was going to freeze over. But the 15 would actually make my dream of carrying one cable real. What timeline are we in again?
So I made the decision that going to an iPhone was the right move and my whole family is on them now. It has made communicating a lot easier; my parents are big fans of FaceTime and how easy it is to use. I'm able to explain how to do things to them easily because all of our phones are similar. iOS is not very intuitive to *me*... but again, I'm an old school Android convert. I'm wired in an entirely different way than my parents are when it comes to tech, and to them, iOS is simple and efficient.
I have preferred smaller Android devices in recent years. I went from a Galaxy S10e to a Galaxy S22 and then to a Pixel 7 before my iPhone 15 Pro. I was caught between wanting the best set of cameras I could get but also not wanting a larger phone - the fact that the Pro iPhones have three cameras like the Pro Max was another perk. I understand that the Pro Max still includes some extra capabilities that aren't available on the Pro - but the difference between the two is smaller than something like the Pixel 7 to the Pixel 7 Pro, which is missing an entire camera sensor.
Anyway, past my bedtime... I like to ramble about it though so fire away with any thoughts or questions.
before I have iPhone I had iPod touch, that's my first iOS device. iOS just felt straightforward and easy to use whereas other OS you need one or more step to get the same function, iOS just did it with fewer steps. Granted that Android has its advantage over iOS such as more configurable/customizable but at most time I dont need that. From that moment on I always had iPhone, my last phone before iPhone probably a Nokia.
Because I've been using Macs since 2004 and I'm trapped in the ecosystem.
Also, whenever I've tried to use a Samsung or other Android (like, a friend handing me their phone to take a picture etc) I've found Android super confusing.
Having said that, if I wasn't trapped in the Apple ecosystem I would consider a Google Pixel.
To take pics of my little children
The rest of the family does. If they didn’t all use it I’d still be on Android.
Started with BlackBerry. Then jumped to android. Hated Apple for years because of iTunes. Tried an iPhone 7 for work and hated it. Jumped ship from android after pixel 6 to a 13 pro. Feels so much better now.
Android was fine but just got tired of feeling like I was compromising what I wanted to stay with it. Example was the watches. I dropped a lot of money at the Apple Store that day. Lol
I tried all famous phone OS like starting with Symbian Microsoft Android So now iOS.
So I started down this road back in 2009. Imo android phones really sucked in 2009. The iPhone 3GS was pretty wow. I had previously used a Treo, BlackBerry, Nokia n80, various PDAs, and te iPhone seemed the most polished. Mind you I thought the first iPhone sucked royally especially bc if the lack of real gps, no flash, AT&T asshats made Apple disable MMS because there were afraid it would break their network lol, anyways…
I was already somewhat in the Apple ecosystem with ipods. I had owned iPods for several years at this point and it was also a plus that I could just connect this new device that would have all my music and playlists as I set them up and I didn’t have to carry a separate phone or use a different music management app. I stayed with iPhone because I got more entrenched in the Apple ecosystem. Most of my social circle use iPhones which makes messaging easier, although I have friends and relatives in mh country of origin so I still use WhatsApp a lot.
Perhaps more than you wanted in an answer? 🤷
i’ll never forget from 2010 to 2013 i had like 3 droids in a row, all eventually crashed and stopped working completely. in 2014 i bought my first iPhone, the 5. it went on for 3 years no problem. what a great phone.
The iPhone is just smooth and trouble free in my opinion and experience. I’ve had a handful of android devices but felt they always got laggy and slow after a year-ish. The iPhone is forever snappy.
iMessage, FaceTime, and Snapchat camera quality. Literally that’s it and I would have an android otherwise
Simplicity. It simply works how I expect it to and when I need it to. Apple’s Face ID just works.
Because my parents buy me them. I actually wanted a pixel but my mom forbade me. My reason is I would like to code an android app but you can’t test your android app on an iPhone.
When I got my first smartphone I looked at several brands and the different options.
This was the time of slide out keyboards, flip phones etc., early days of Android etc. A few friends had some different designs and most had some defect or “feature” that made them hard to use.
So I tried the iPhone 3G. Been Apple ever since. Actually expanded into MacBooks, iPads etc.
Because it is the least problematic, with the best security and longevity. Read that as, the smallest amount of stress for the longest amount of time. Lets face it. All these things are trash.
I’ve found iPhones last longer with good performance than android phones that I’ve used. All my Android phones have deteriorated in performance in 1 year.
Battery is a concern in iPhones that I’ve had. But the performance and longer lasting quality has been compensating for that. Apart from stock android phones all other phones have lot of bloatware.
But the most important reason is android had become monstrous in size. I hate those huge phones. The only small phone with unbeatable performance was iPhone SE. I felt it was launched only for me to buy 🤣 But I waited until I got it for 16K rupees. Then I got Se2 and got SE3 2 months ago.
I pick it because I hate android. It's horrendous.
It was free and I don’t give a fuck about these phone wars. It gets the job done and that’s all I care about.
Needed to change my old phone my girlfriend sold me her iPhone cheap
I was a blackberry guy from the start, I like enclosed eco-systems I like the security and stability of software. Android just feels cheap and gimmicky to me.
I come from a pixel 5 and recently switched to iphone 15. I think the pixel is better in terms of workflow. Everything is customizable down to exactly which notifications I receive and how I receive them, how I navigate apps and a lot of smart convenient functions in keyboard or volume settings.
The reason I changed to iphone is because of everything social and reliability. I know I can use social apps to their full ability for smooth communication and I will be less bothered by bugs. Most likely when something isn’t working as it should it is my fault and not the phone ignoring my settings.
because i’m not 18, my parents got iphones when i was 5. i’ve had apple products my entire life other than my lg wing i bought for pokémon go. evreything just eorks
Hands down. User interface. It just works. Manages itself very good. All apps work as expected.
- I realized that most of the android flagships' features were just gimmicks that you'd forget about the next day. (Except for the fast charging, shit's a miracle)
- I got tired of customizing my phone, widgets, wallpapers etc. I just didn't bother anymore at the end of the day.
- I wanted a sturdy phone that wouldn't easily break, something that you can feel the quality of materials put into it.
- Superb camera
- Lastly, I wanted something simple, clean and a phone that just works. Phones should help you get past your hectic day, not another headache you'd have to deal with constantly.
I used android phones for years. I left an iPhone 4 because I wanted the freedom android offered. I tweaked and did this and that to my phones. Now I just want a phone. I want to call, text, occasionally FaceTime, stream..etc. nothing out of the ordinary.
iPhones just work and do everything they need to. I don’t need custom notifications and whatever else. Just a phone.
