Cw: fish

On the 2nd of march 1964, a group of indigenous rights activists, among them actor Marlon Brando and Puyallup tribal leader Bob Satiacum, illegally fished in the Puyallup River to protest the denial of treaty rights to Native Americans. This form of civil disobedience is known as a "fish-in", and in this specific incident both Brando and an Episcopal clergyman were arrested.

The fish-in was staged by the National Indian Youth Council, a Native American civil rights organization formed in Gallup, New Mexico in 1961. It became part of the so-called "Fish Wars", a set of protests spanning decades in which Native American tribes around the Puget Sound pressured the U.S. government to recognize fishing rights granted by the Point No Point Treaty.

The protests eventually won indigenous people in the area the right to fish without state permits - in the 1974 case "United States v. Washington", U.S. District Court Judge George Hugo Boldt stated that treaty right fishermen must be allowed to take up to 50% of all potential fishing harvests and required that they have an equal voice in the management of the fishery.

The so-called "Boldt Decision" was reaffirmed by the Supreme Court in 1979 and has been used as a precedent for handling other, similar treaties.

I really want to buy Persona 3 Reload, but (and it feels silly to say) I still have like PTSD triggers from the time I was in recovery from surgery and sitting on my bed playing jrpgs really brings me back to that. SMT games are my favourite games of all time, so if there's any game I'm going to be brave for and try to push past those bad memories, it would be SMT.

should I just go for it and pick it up tonight? I feel like I should. I don't wanna find myself in the middle of bad memories tonight, since I'm very much not past surgery trauma, but idk... maybe I'll just do it. I can at least try

I feel embarrassed since there are a lot of other things that aren't just playing a type of game on my bed, but here I am and this is just one of the many things I need to reclaim from that period

Sure there may not be rules against a dog playing basketball, but I'm confident there are rules against travelling which would be near impossible for a creature witg 4 legs to abide by.

Whenever I read or hear about former NOI or Five-Percenters who discovered actual islam and converted I'm just baffled. Like how did you not realize actual Islam was a thing until like a decade in.

I am the literal dwarf planet Pluto.

My neighbor has a guest over, and now my nearly fresh roll of toilet paper is gone. I am not pleased.

(If you're wondering "why don't you just share tp???" it's cause the guy I share the bathroom with uses an entire roll PER DAY (at least) and i refuse to cover his doodoo expenses peterson-pain )

Local brewery has finally gucking done it. Hops soda. No alcohol, just fizzy water and hops. Someone needs to intervene.

Apparently Bcachefs supports subvolumes, but it does not support directly mounting a subvolume. I'm not even sure what the difference between bcachefs subvolume create xyz and mkdir xyz is. :thonk:

I'm living out of a hotel far from home on a contract for a job right now. The owners of the location gave me a key to their place so we could go in in the weekend to mess with their nanobots to inject into leftists who post too good. But the problem is that the keys are on a lanyard. So I'm wearing a lanyard around my neck and I'm afraid it makes me like one of those PMC cringelords. Am I a liberal now? Have I always been? For reference, I work at Langley monitoring leftist forums to spot leftists who post too good.

Card counted for eight hours yesterday. Made back all my losses from a few days ago plus $100 more. I'm still in the negative overall but I feel like I'm at the point where I'm not making mistakes anymore, and I'm fully comfortable doing all of the things I need to do to generate EV.

One thing about this none of the videos I watched prepared me for was how long I would spend not playing blackjack. I guess some people will just keep playing their minimum bet even through negative shoes but I don't have the money to spend doing that, so whenever I see a negative shoe I just come up with a woo woo superstitious reason not to play ("the vibes are off right now" or "this dealer is just too lucky") and sit/stand watching the count, sometimes for an hour or more before it goes positive again and I join back in.

I think the pit bosses at my casino are starting to suspect something. I hope I'm just being paranoid because this place is right around the corner from my house and I don't want to get banned, but either way I'm still negative to them so I intend to stick to this casino at least until I break even (at which point I'll play somewhere else for a while and hope they forget about me) or they tell me to leave.

Writing "do not use the word 'reification' when talking to normal people" on the blackboard 150 times

Shogun 2 Co-op campaign is very interesting. Instead of taking control of an enemy army during a battle, you can lend your own units to your spectating friend, and try to sync your tactics. Of course, when one is a fresh install, and the other has an unreasonable amount of hours in TW games, you get a lot of "This is exactly the thing Sun Tzu told failson generals NOT to do" moments. Very fun, highly recommend.

Just got done rewatching Dune, never read the books. My thoughts, in no particular order:

  • I like Jason Momoa, generally, but he’s by far the worst actor in the movie.
  • most of the fight scenes look just terrible. Not sure if it’s the choreography or the blocking or what, but whenever there’s a fight scene suddenly this otherwise visually stunning movie looks like a direct-to-streaming superhero show. Except Paul’s duel at the end of the movie, I thought that looked very good.
  • There’s definitely a bit of an Oedipal theme running through Paul and Jessica’s story, but it’s less pronounced than I remember feeling it was on my original viewing of the film.

Can’t wait to see Dune 2.

I could make an entire bit account (or bot account, for that matter) out of linking the entry in The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows that relates to a post or comment

To quote the author,

I think the act of naming something implies, very simply, that you’re not alone.... Once there’s a word for an experience, it feels contained somehow—and the container has a handle, which makes it much easier to pick up and pass around. Kinda comforting.

I've been wanting a cat for a while now, but i'm not prepared for a stray for sure, and my two dogs might also be a bit upset :P

Fumiko is easily one of the most awful characters in Chainsaw Man so why does she have to be so cute.

The new slice of the FF7 remake has a part where the gang rests at an inn, and Aerith and Tifa have models without shoes on for when they sleep, but Cloud and Barret keep theirs on when they go to bed. All art will eventually end up in the hands of perverts.

I had a dream i got Fetterman fired from managing a college dorm lol????

i lived in like. a dorm room/storage closet combo. and this dude snuck in to steal some supplies. and i was mad because my privacy was violated. but fetterman wanted to let him off the hook. so like FIVE authorities above him (all women) showed up, and one guy bellow him, and they all agreed with me and he got fired.

I am seriously not having a good time again, as I'm like, constantly not having a good time. I tried to go back to sleep constantly all night, and couldn't. and now I'm not bothering since getting groceries with my dad soon. I hate this. maybe afterwards I could go to sleep. also would be nice if two of my fingers could stop hurting. because why not! can't wait to find out what else wants to hurt next.

Following up on this and looking for advice... Does anybody have any guidance on how to break into the literary world? Getting paid for writing poems, plays, short stories, that kinda stuff? Any tips or guides on first steps? Who to contact, that sort of stuff?

I was wearing shorts the other day and fuck I hate my legs. They're so hairy and big. I dunno what they should look like but not that. Every year I have this problem.

On a completely different note, I hate when my automated stuff breaks. I just realized my music download script has been broken, and some of my playlist has been taken down. YouTube doesn't even tell me what's been removed so I can't even know what I'm missing. I guess I'm just going to be missing a few things, and I have to piece some amount of it from older copies (thank god for those). But it's all a piecemeal mess. And all this because of copyright.

How am I supposed to get a job when no one wants unqualified people? My resume is dogshit and I have a useless degree and I'm too poor to get a master's and I am too "unqualified" to get a non part-time minimum wage job. Every employer just assumes everyone young has master's in a STEM field and years of experience right out the gate. I can't even get a damn interview.

I fucking hate it here. Why isn't there a job guarantee?
