It was posted somewhere on one of those spicy subreddits under some affair threesome story. And it sort if clicked with me. Like look around, normal people on the street don't all look like supermodels. And supermodels don't lurk around in reddit comment sections. It really put things into perspective for me.

• "Life isn't short, it's the longest thing you'll ever do."

It is a bit uplifting to realize that no matter if you have bad or good period in your life, it is only a short chapter contained in the longest time period possible for you to experience.

There were a few others that I probably can't remember of the top of my head right now.

I know we're all feeling doom and gloom but can we get a thread of some wins/good news from last night?

I want to make a satirical poster, but the generators I tried kept putting an image that looked nothing like the person. I see so many of these I thought it was trivial to make one. And I totally support it clearly saying it was AI generated. Not trying to fool anyone, just want to make a joke. Edit: not looking to edit a photo. Just want to make a political meme.

I’ve just bought a new fridge and it comes with a section to hold eggs. I’ve never stored them in the fridge since salmonella isn’t really a problem here because our chickens are vaccinated. Does anybody in the UK actually refrigerate their eggs?

As an aside, I tend to decide what goes into the fridge based on where it was in the supermarket. If they don’t refrigerate it, neither do I. So for eggs, I don’t.

Secondary question - what am I gonna use the egg holder in the fridge for now, other than maybe briefly cooling my balls?

The last time Trump won, there was this constant barrage of scandals and frankly horrifying news permeating my online experience. And while I admit that from my European perspective, there was some entertainment in the whole thing, the experience was more exhausting than anything else.

I like to keep up with the news, but I also like my mental health. Are there any effective strategies for keeping the amount of trump-spam I’m exposed to at an absolute minimum, while also keeping up with whatever else is going on in the world?

I was just watching PBS Eons about a housecat sized beaver like animal all the way back in the Mesozoic. The thought crossed my mind that it would be interesting if there was a Wikipedia type project for the Universe, Galaxy, Solar system, and Earth. I should be able to see how anything fits into the big picture timeline at a glance.

We should have a culture of nerds that extend beyond the written words of a Wiki. Forget the prestige of some elitist overpriced rag journal that acts as an outdated class and learning barrier in the present, only functioning as a makeshift poor quality reputation filter in the present. I want to see visual timelines where filling in some detail is an expected accomplishment within academia.

As I'm writing this I realized, this connects to how I perceive video based audio/visual information as the primary form of human communication. I think the next evolutionary step in teaching and studies is to forego the lecturer in favor of recorded media of empirically meritorious achievement compiled and tailored to each individual's abilities. Along this line of thought, a scientific discovery should include an expectation to not only add to a public visual timeline archive, but to link the information in a way that teaches and connects the information to the world at large.

I guess I'm saying Science needs a cartographic like department/element where the figurative tree of branching knowledge is strengthened instead of independent niches on an ever expanding fractal edge of exploration. Publishing on the tree should be the driver of meritorious achievement instead of a redundant paper media subscription rag like the present. Reputation shouldn't be limited to a few peers but instead showcased on a world stage that is as messy as reality but beautiful in aggregate. Publishing should involve an obligation to educate effectively where those that are limited in this skill are incentivised to add coauthors that are far more capable of effective communication. Persons with curiosity and time should be capable of freely navigating from what they know in the present to the messy edge of fringe science without any financial or circumstantial limitations in our digital age.

"How impressed everybody is" is the basis of money, law, self-worth and our models of reality. But that's a pretty shabby basis if you ask me.

For me I'm currently torn between WoW and New World. WoW is my "comfort food" MMO having played off and on since 2004. New World's update has been stellar, and it offers a fun refreshing take on the genre.

I've noticed some usernames around Lemmy in almost all communities I follow that create several new posts daily and comment in almost all topics. I'm very curious, how do you have so much time on your hands?

This question's been eating at me for some time, but I didn't want to directly ask in any of the threads or message the users because I don't to single anyone out, I'm just very curious. <3

Here is what I mean by this. Out of all the times I've been to a doctor, been visited by a cop, called the cops, been to court, went to school, and so on, I've realized lately that I haven't had a single good experience with any of them.

Doctors either always tell me nothing is wrong when something is wrong or said something was wrong when something wasn't. Got traumatic brain injury? Oh it's just a bonk on the head. Got blue balls? Bring em in, doc needs money. The presence of doctors here is so inconsistent with recovery from things like illnesses that the place resembles the stereotypical Sparta-obsessed fascist nation where hospitals don't exist by design.

Police and courts will give you no luck at all stemming from having absolutely no consistency with how they deal with things whatsoever. I've seen child abuse cases where babies are left with behavioral issues that mirror those child rehoming documentaries and the abuser gets two months, while also seeing small cases of assault that lead to two years. I've had instances where I ask police about something they can do. "We'll look into it" they say. Nothing happens. The next thing that happens, they're blaming me for a dead tree from my yard with a branch that snapped off and fell on a neighbor's fence, and I go to get sentenced.

My teachers were like these examples too. Did I benefit even once from my teachers? No. Did I benefit from the social environment? No. Did they treat me like Mr. Burns treats Homer? All the time. They didn't see me as a person, they saw me as a goal. And they would never mind cheating their own rules to achieve it.

And the moment they don't think they have a job to do regarding you, the same jobs they half-ass anyways, they treat you less like an individual to remember and from time to time treat as an equal human and more like a bird you pushed out of a nest without intent to hear from them again. And I didn't realize this until recently, that I have no positive experiences with public servants. Makes me almost not want to work.

Consider this installment three of my previous question which is the second installment. For Election Day, I was researching the history of voting which has taken many forms. At one time in history, people voted by dropping rocks in holes corresponding to their candidate, with the one with most rocks being the candidate who won. We've had many forms "of voting", from rocks in a well to paper ballots to voting machines to whatever this anime concept with glowy lights is. Each method has had supporters and critics, for example critics of voting machines will say it can be rigged, critics of paper ballots will say papers can be mismanaged, and critics of counting yard flags as a method will say it's too tedious to do it all.

Suppose we discovered dolphins could understand democracy. So here you are coming up with a way to "express a vote". Underwater, paper shrivels, tech may short-circuit, it's hard to dig a hole with classic equipment, etc. unless you have a way to make something work. How would you teach dolphins to manifest voting in a non-rigged yet massively usable way?

I refuse to watch cable news, don’t have regular tv, and not a fan of visual media for news anyways. I would love something like a Lemmy/reddit mega thread where I can refresh and get up to the minute updates, but from professional news/journalists. But without the faux drama reality tv stuff that the cable news networks always do. I also love podcasts so if there’s a listening medium that isn’t overly dramatic that works too. Any suggestions?
