Beer

While I have my favorites, I'm usually not one to comment on or review beer. But I saw these two lonely cans in the 50 cent bin down at Halloran's Hooch House and figured I'd take the chance. Always up for trying something new that at least purports to qualify as beer.

I let it sit for 24hrs plus in the fridge, expecting each can to have been drop-kicked across the store several times if for no reason other than sheer spite that the owner had bought a case and couldn't sell it.

On carefully opening the first one, I momentarily wondered if I was on an episode of that practical joke show and they'd replaced my beer with a fire extinguisher. At least an ounce lost to the excess foam, not that I shed a tear for those drops.

In a blind taste test, I'd have seriously questioned how the word "beer" was being defined.

The overall experience, I'd rate a 0/10 - both cans were hell-bent on extinguishing non-existent fires. But with proper warning (clearly marked 3.0% ABV and low calorie), it's actually not terrible.

The kind of "not terrible" when a Pepsi drinker gets a Coke foisted on them by a clueless host; Far less offensive to one's sensibilities than when some fool tries to pawn off a diet soda as a real one.

Won't be seeking these out in the future, though the rest of their lineup is quite solid and enjoyable.

When I was twenty-one, and had to drive home from the bar, I grabbed an O'Doul's waiting for my friends. This was definitely more enjoyable, the only question is by how much.

Still thinking about this pizza.

I ate a lot of good stuff this weekend, but this pizza I had for lunch on Sunday really hit the spot. Right in the center of the pie they sprinkled some grated Parmesan and/or sea salt that provides a nice zing of flavor as soon as you put the tip of a slice in your mouth. It's the Simple Enquiry pizza from Dogfish Head Brewings and Eats in Rehoboth, Delaware.

Hi beer lovers. I'm just finishing a trip in Belgium and Amsterdam. I tried a lot of beers during my stay. I took notes.

While I'm sure I can find some/most of the beers I've tasted back home in Canada, I was wondering if there is an app, or a website, that can recommend other beer based on my own tastes. Like, if I rate the beer I drink based on my tastes, the engine could recommend other beers of a cumuler kind and taste.

I've been searching such a tool for half an hour and I didn't find anything that resembles this.

All the beer apps I've found so far were to rate beer, and find local places where they sell your favourite beer. I want to discover new beers.

Any suggestions?

I found this at my local Total Wine while browsing the shelves. Not much of a detailed review here but I thought it was really good! I was curious about the chili peppers but it's hardly noticeable at all.

Tried this tasty Belgian farmhouse ale and enjoyed it. According to the label, it's bottle conditioned, which is uncommon for commercial brews. Would drink again.

Maybe I’m odd, but I’ve been really enjoying sour beers lately. I seem to just find the same ones over and over in stores though. Any good recommendations for sour beers I should try to find? Bonus points if they sell online!

Airport beer
