A fresh update is here! This release brings initial support for PieFed. The PieFed API is still under development, so some features are limited, but here’s what’s new:

  • Support for PieFed (limited while the API evolves)
  • Notifications for new activity on communities, posts, comments, or users on PieFed
  • View topics and feeds

Give it a try and let me know how it works for you!

Hi! I've been using Boost on my Android phone for years now, back to when it was for Reddit too. It's perfect. I used Voyager on my iPad but now that I switched to a large Android tablet I'm facing an issue with the poor quality in the cards feed when in portrait mode. I'm aware of the split view on landscape mode but I'd rather use it in portrait.

I have enabled the HQ image download in the settings but, as implied, it only affects the images once you tap on them to enlarge. I understand that loading full size images in the feed is not an option since some are up to 5 MB or more, but maybe an option in settings for slightly larger or better quality images? Or maybe a new card type that doesn't go full width, similar to how Voyager does?

I've been a supporter going back years. Hell, I even bought the Reddit Boost knowing it would stop working, but just to support the dev.

But this app has more bugs than a termite mound, and I'm at the breaking point.

There are bugs that have been here for 2 YEARS that are still present.

Ok, maybe this side project isn't for this dev. I need an app that works.

Boost 1.0.28

Android 16 on Pixel 8a

Boost's content is visible behind the notification bar at the top and the navigation bar at the bottom of the screen. It's not possible to interact with anything under those bars, including Boost's settings button.

The work-around I've been using is to switch to gesture navigation to get into Boost settings but that's not ideal. Otherwise, love the app. Thanks!

I get a "Login failed" error when attempting to login to Piefed. I intentionally tried with an incorrect username and password to see if it may be a connection issue, but I instead get a different error: "An unknown error has occurred".

Anyone else experiencing the same issue?

Please could you add a toggle to filter out posts by new accounts? My feed often contains low-effort links to news articles, always posted by new accounts. I've filtered out the users, but they just get new accounts on other instances to continue.

Please comment if you'd also like this feature added!

(Edited to add screenshots of new accounts, and my blocklist containing another low effort user)

This has been going on for at least several months

Doesn't matter how many times I hide a post, mark as read, they still keep coming back on my main feed and it's driving me f'king bananas

edit: I should also mention I've gone through, in various iterations, all the basic troubleshooting things. I've cleared, logged/relogged, uninstalled, updated, joined/left the beta, blah blah. The issue always comes back

I like to keep an eye on every post in my comms and it is convenient to do so on browser with the moderator view. I could just click every community I mod and go through it but this is just more convenient. Wondering if that could be worth adding.

Also: modlog??

I noticed in the settings that Boost is preconfigured to directly open URLs from certain instances. This functionality, however, does not extend to my private instance.

Is there a specific protocol, such as boost:// or lemmy://, that we can utilize instead of https:// to ensure Boost handles these links?

Thank you.

So far I usually see about 20-30 posts before I can't scroll any further, anyone else?

13

What the title says. The summed number doesn't tell the full story.

14

Say I want to block, as an example, all top level posts that contain a link to mensheath.com, or vivaldi.com, can I do that?

15

It doesn't break the app, but it does make it a bit harder to tap those buttons.

I'm using a Motorola "Moto g 5G plus" in case that affects anything.

The bottom nav bar is fully on-screen when viewing feeds and posts.

Try to click a few things and reply. Maybe not immediately but it will freeze.

1.0.20 version

Current Version: Boost Beta 1.0.22 (26)

Issue: When I send DMs, the keyboard always covers the message input box at the bottom of the UI, making it impossible to see what I am typing.

To workaround, I switch to the WebUI for messages (which is worse for its own reasons) or I write my message in a different app and then cut and paste it into the Boost message field.

At least for me. This has been a repeat thing for months but I never bothered to say or post anything. That being said, Boost is the best app for Lemmy as far as I'm concerned and I've been using it since the second Ruben launched it. Paid for it twice without any hesitation. Thank you so much for making my stay on lemmy a hell of a lot easier, smoother and just more enjoyable.

This is a hyper minor thing but I figured I'd say something. If I click on a message in my massive ass inbox and it brings me to the comment, I often click context because I don't remember what's going on. That works fine. But if I click "See All Comments" (or whatever the text for that option is) then it just pops me up a single comment, as if I were clicking on the contextual one. This aint a big deal, I just smash it a couple times and I'm at the top of the chain. But I figured I'd point it out. Then again maybe this is just a weird thing with my phone, wouldn't shock me.

Thanks again <3

I'm on version 1.0.22 and tablet mode doesn't seem to do anything any more. If I check or uncheck the box for tablet mode in Setting it looks the same (not split screen like before).

Pretty much every time I see banner ads at the bottom of boost it's sexually suggestive and implied ads from Temu meant to grab your attention.

These are often borderline or actually NSFW. Which is becoming a problem.

Still love the app! I just got a foldable, and I have a few requests/suggestions:

  • Let me adjust the size of the left and right sides
  • The global sort/search and post sort/search are right next to each other. If the global sort/search could be moved to the left side it would be less confusing

Also non-tablet related: I have muted an instance, but there is 1 community on that instance that I'd still like to follow. Is that possible without setting up multiple accounts?

I have no idea if this is technically feasible within Lemmy's current framework, but I was wondering - has Boost ever considered adding viewer counts (or "view metrics") to posts and comments on user profile pages?

For example, perhaps something like:

πŸ‘οΈ _____ Views

Similar to how Reddit shows post view metrics.

It'd be a great way to get a better sense of engagement beyond just upvotes and comments, and could help users understand which of their posts are being seen, even if they don't receive that many interactions.

Would love to know if this has been discussed before or if it might be possible to implement in the future.

Finding quite a few other domains that spin forever and don't load. Opening in web browser works fine.

There seem to be a couple (relatively minor) bugs with viewing saved posts.

  • Sorting mostly doesn't work - the default seems to be to display the posts by date saved rather than date posted and "top" seems to only work for day and week. When selecting any of the other sorting options, the page refreshes and the default is used.
  • The "Show hidden" toggle doesn't show posts that are saved (which requires going back to the post and unhiding it for it to show up in the view)

edit: using Boost v1.0.20(24)
