When I use boost for lemmy my upvotes are not displayed correctly. In the last days I upvoted many posts, but only one is showing in the account -> upvoted tab. If I upvote a post, and scroll later back to them they are still upvoted even after restarting the app later, but the tab does not contain them. Waiting a day or anytime frame to give it time to sync does also nothing. What can I do to see my upvotes again?

When someone makes a comment or post that has my username tagged in it, it'll show in the "Mentions" tab if I manually go to it, but will not fire a notification or even show a red dot unread counter on the tab.

Moreover, if it was a comment that would have ended up in my main inbox anyways (E.g. as a direct reply to my post or to a comment of mine) it won't show in the main inbox at all

I assume it might be intentional to not show messages in the main inbox if it's showing in the mention tab, but without the Mention tab firing notifications that's rather...problematic lol

Might be a minor thing, but for me it feels clunky now hitting the back button is instant but the swipe to close the image viewer has some kind of animation lag. I think just being able to toggle it to have the same transition (or lack thereof) as hitting the back button would be great.

Has Boost considered expanding its app distribution beyond the Google Play Store and Apple App Store by publishing on third-party App Store platforms such as Aptoide, F-Droid, Uptodown, etc.?

Rationale:

  • Wider Reach: Aptoide, F-Droid, Uptodown, etc. have millions of active users globally and do not impose regional restrictions, allowing Boost to reach users who may not have access to Play Store in their region.
  • Increased Accessibility: These stores support older Android versions and offer previous app versions, making Boost accessible to users with legacy devices.
  • No Upfront Fees: Developers can publish apps on Aptoide, F-Droid, and Uptodown for free, with flexible monetization options and no payment required for distribution.
  • Enhanced Flexibility: Uptodown, F-droid, Aptoide, etc. allow users to download, update, or roll back app versions easily, which can improve user satisfaction and retention.
  • Security and Trust: These platforms prioritize app security, with Uptodown using tools like VirusTotal for malware scanning and Aptoide employing a blockchain-based approval system.

Summary:
Listing Boost on Aptoide, Uptodown, F-Droid, etc. would make the app more accessible worldwide, especially to users outside the reach of mainstream app stores, and could help grow Boost's user base without additional distribution costs.

What the title says. I try to post to a topic, picture and text, and I get a 400 error code.

8

I used to use Boost for Reddit and one of my favorite features was the custom Feeds.

Is there any plans to bring those back? Or am I just missing it?

9

I'd love an option to disable infinite scrolling in favor of normal pages, like is the case on many Lemmy web interfaces

Phone: Pixel 7 Pro

Latest android

Latest app version

Ever since the latest update, whenever I open an image post and go to download the image, the app crashes. This only happens to images, videos do not crash.

I don't get a warning or anything, it just exits the post and resets back to the main page with the default view.

If it helps, I also use cards 2.0 as my view.

This happened after repeatedly testing in order to make a good report: Boost keeps stopping

Seems like old Lemmy instances were purged in a recent update but there's a lot that are missing. Would be nice to have so I don't have to leave the app to view a Lemmy link

12

I was wondering if there's a way to view all of the communities on a server other than the one i signed up for. If not, would it be possible to link the instances' names to their communities list?

13

So when looking at the Community Information in the sidebar it doesn't show the number of members or number of posts. I tend to use this information as a gauge of activity within the community. I can see this information when I search for the community though.

Is this a limitation of the system or something that could potentially be added to the app later down the road?

See this thread for reproducing the error:

https://crazypeople.online/post/378661

If you upload a webp that is animated the preview is a still image, and clicking on it shows just a single frame of the webp.

Adding the image to the body of the post lets it play automatically on Boost, but clicking the image makes it behave like a still image again.

When I have the option to View all comments ->, tapping it only reveals the context.

Steps to replicate:

  1. Go to Inbox
  2. Select a reply that has a lot of comments on the post
  3. Tap "View all comments ->"

Not all comments will load.

I thought I was fat fingering, but I was very carefully hitting View all comments, as well as trying to tap above it.

Whenever I try and read long posts with several images, scrolling down becomes extremely sluggish. I've attached a link to one such post. Once I reach the replies to the post, scrolling becomes responsive again.

This is on Android.

Glad to see @rmayayo@lemmy.world around again, thank you for all you've done to bring Boost to Lemmy.

Are there any plans to build in Admin functionality like viewing and processing new user applications, voting data, etc? Some of the other apps offer this functionality and it would be greatly appreciated if you could add them to Boost. If it's too niche of a request I understand but I'm sure I'm not the only one who would appreciate it.

Thanks again for the continued work. Looking forward to what the future brings to Boost.

I wanted to bring to your attention a feature from Voyager for Lemmy that could be a valuable addition to Boost.

Voyager has a "Migrate Subreddits" tool designed SPECIFICALLY for Reddit users transitioning to Lemmy.

This tool streamlines the migration process by helping users easily find communities on Lemmy that are similar to the subreddits they've subscribed to on Reddit.

The process in Voyager is straightforward:

  1. Users log in to their Reddit account and access their subscription list via the "multireddit of your subscriptions" link available in the sidebar.
  2. They copy the link and paste it into Voyager, allowing the tool to automatically search for corresponding communities on Lemmy.

This feature significantly lowers the friction for users migrating to a new platform by minimizing the effort required to find and rebuild their communities.

Has Boost ever considered incorporating a similar "Migrate Communities" feature?

It could be an excellent addition to assist new users transitioning from Reddit, making it easier for them to rediscover and reconnect with the communities they care about most.

Such a feature could also enhance Boost's onboarding process and attract a growing audience of users exploring alternative platforms.

If this is something Boost could implement, it might be worth exploring further.

EDIT:

The way that it works is: when you enter the Multireddit link, it will show up like this:

And if you then tap on the link that you just added, you will get this:

And then, if you tap on one of them, depending on whether or not there is a Lemmy community alternative to the subreddit: you will either get this:

Pretty please. I got used to using it on the other platform that shall not be named, and now I can't live without it.

It's free, helps low vision readers and can be downloaded directly from the Braile Institute.

When I'm scrolling through posts, I can set the display to show the community or not, show the user or not, but I can't show the URL itself. Really all I want is to see the domain, so I can judge if a click will be taking me to dailymail or rawstory or msn or foxnews.

This information is available in the website view as highlighted in the screenshot.

Is this a missing feature or am I just missing the setting?

Edit: Feature added. Thanks, Rubén!

Summary:
Please add a feature to Boost for Lemmy where, if a user is logged in with multiple accounts, they receive a visual indicator (e.g., a symbol, badge, or number) on the inactive accounts when a new notification or inbox message arrives on them. This would help users quickly identify that they have notifications on other accounts without needing to manually check each one.

Problem:
For users managing multiple Lemmy accounts (e.g., for different communities or purposes), it’s easy to miss notifications or messages on inactive accounts when they’re logged into just one. Currently, users need to switch between accounts periodically to check for activity, which is both inconvenient and easy to overlook.

Proposed Solution:
Introduce a cross-account notification system where:

  • When logged into Account A, and a new notification or inbox message arrives on Account B, a small indicator (like a numbered badge or icon) appears next to Account B in the account-switching menu.
  • The badge could display the number of unread notifications or simply alert users that attention is needed on the other account.

Benefits:

  • Improved User Experience: Users don't have to "guess" if there's activity on their other accounts.
  • Increased Engagement: Notifications will ensure users are prompt in responding, especially if the other account is for managing a community.
  • Time-Saving: Users can focus on one account without manually checking others unless they know there’s something pending.

Optional Features:

  • Customizable Notifications: Users can toggle cross-account notifications on/off for specific accounts.
  • Sound/Push Alerts: Optionally allow a subtle sound, vibration, or push notification when activity is detected on inactive accounts.

Conclusion:
This small enhancement would GREATLY improve the usability of Boost for Lemmy for individuals managing multiple accounts. It ensures no notifications go unnoticed and streamlines workflow across accounts, aligning with Boost’s goal of making Lemmy more user-friendly and efficient.

Happened in the last few days. I logged out and back in but that didn't help.

Don't think I'm banned, I was able to make a post on my browser and haven't had any mail saying as such

My app has started to not acknowledge that I've tapped a link for about 1 to 2 seconds after I've tapped it. It will, however, still collapse the comment, which is wildly frustrating.
