A way to see 3D images without special screens or glasses. Just cross your eyes to overlap the two images.

Posting on Crossview

This is a community for posting or discussing 3D images using the crossview technique. There are other communities for viewing 3D on your screen including the Parallel View technique, one for Wigglegrams and also one for Anaglyph 3D using red/blue glasses.

Keep it fun.

For anyone who cares, this post is not about Elon Musk. It is about celebrating the thousands of people who work diligently to expand humanity’s reach beyond Earth. Yes, Elon has proven himself to be a despicable human being, but that has little to do with the amazing work being done at Spacex.

This is a cellphone pic with the adapter mounted on the cellphone. Yeah it works but needs some cropping. I did vertical and horizontal:

This one has 3 layers. I like how the first layer has that transparent shelve that you can see the other layer thru.

I got a few pirates but this is the one I found quickest.

A sample from the 4 mirror beam splitter device. I designed it with a fixed convergence angle which makes it relatively usable for portraits. At least for use in a DSLR, I thought maybe the reach should be enough to include one to several people, a foreground and several levels of background. So I set the angle to allow shoulders up close.

But I'm actually working on a way to adjust the convergence spot. I want to be able to have the narrowest central line and to have the same stuff on both sides so I don't need to post process much. As is, you either get the exact same stuff on both images or you get a little more on the outside or on the inside. It depends on what side of the convergence spot the stuff is located. But its too much to ask, I end up cropping every time. Adjustment is the way to go.

From Library of Congress. Here's the original:

The 1900 Galveston hurricane, also known as the Great Galveston hurricane and the Galveston Flood, and known regionally as the Great Storm of 1900 or the 1900 Storm, was a catastrophic tropical cyclone that became the deadliest natural disaster in the history of the United States. The strongest storm of the 1900 Atlantic hurricane season, it left between 6,000 and 12,000 fatalities in the United States; the number most cited in official reports is 8,000. Most of these deaths occurred in and near Galveston, Texas, after the storm surge inundated the coastline and the island city with 8 to 12 ft (2.4 to 3.7 m) of water.

Attempted to creat a cross-view image of a basket of apples. It's not perfect, but it turned out alright!

Let's get this community more active! Having just discovered this and the parallel view community, hopefully we can get a more consistent stream of these images coming in! Also, I'm not sure how to make my gifs auto-loop. Any ideas?

Took a quick, poor-quality photo of my library as tribute. Does anyone have any recommendations for Free and Open Source software which can create stereographic images? I can just throw them into Paint (or the Linux equivalent, as I'm mid-switch right now), like I did here, but I would like to find software that does the processing quickly.

My time has come!

The above stereographic image is for cross-eyed viewing (most stereograms are wall-eyed, so you may need to put your finger in front of your screen until this one comes into focus)

This is an image of Honolulu, Hawaii, published by NASA. Note Diamond Head (the volcanic crater) in the south.

Here are some other stereopairs published by JPL:

Wheeler Ridge, California

Mount Saint Helens

Salt Lake Valley, Utah

Wellington, New Zealand
