Now that the 2025 season has finished, I, like most, will not be sad to see the back of the ground-effect era. It started with so much promise and optimism, only for the original design principles to be cast to one side before they even began and we were just left with a mess. I do believe that the cost-cap has had an impact in bringing the teams closer together and I hope that remains true for 2026.

But I have a glowing sense of optimism for next year:

• Smaller, lighter cars
• Driver operated active-aero
• A brand new team with Cadillac
• Sauber's manifestation into Audi
• 2 new engine providers in Honda (AM) and Audi
• The return of Bottas and Perez
• A new circuit (albeit street, but new nonetheless)
• Alpine sporting a Mercedes engine

The best part for me, is that it's almost a complete reset. Nobody knows who will come out on top and who has the best engine/aero combination. Sure, there are rumours, but then previous rumours have also suggested Ferrari have an outlier of a car each year...

There's people swearing blind that AM will be the showstoppers next year. It's all such a fun time that I cannot wait to see how this all unfolds. Even silly things like engine reliability might have a part to play, which we've rarely seen in years gone by.

I honestly hope it's not a complete and utter let down.
