With the Framework team having figured out how to make an easily replaceble touchscreen that accepts pen input, it would be interesting for the next step to be a surface pro-styled device. It's no secret that the surface pro has been in a steady decline over the years, with competing products being lacking and they moving to ARM for the consumer product, locking x86 behind an insanely expensive business model, an offer from framework with their focus on repairability would be very well received. I think the detachable 2-in-1 format would greatly benefit from the expansion cards, given how limited the connectivity is in products that share this form factor, also since it would be an entirely new product it could be a way to experiment with LPCAMM2 for the memory which, due to its characteristics (form factor, power efficiency and speed) lends itself well for a product like this. Now, of course the price would be high in comparison to the laptop 13 for example, but personally I would really like to see something like this. What do y'all think? would you be interested in seeing a product of this nature from Framework?

PD: sorry if there's bad english on the post, not a native speaker.

Since I know the Framework team is active here, are y'all considering upgrading the Touchpad module, which has been the same since gen 1? Have zero idea what the supplier landscape looks like for these, but I see some manufacturers slowly getting onboard (i.e. Surface) after Apple switched a few years ago.

Would love to drop in a new Touchpad that doesn't get a little loose over time or occasionally need a bit of screw tightening :)

Nirav Patel, the founder and CEO, has considered himself a “hardware guy” since he was a kid, with a lifelong passion for building physical products. His background includes working as a software engineer at Apple, and he was personally recruited to Oculus by its founder, Palmer Luckey. So, what kind of consumer hardware is he creating now—and how has he found success in a space where most others don’t make it? Reinventing Laptops. Computex is this week! We'll have fancy pictures (and maybe even videos) from Computex later, but I wanted to give the community a sneak peek of our booth at Computex.

Im currently looking for a new laptop and i think framework is a good choice.

The primary use would be web surfing, watching movies or yt while traveling, doing light work on MS Office, some network stuff and maybe play games like minecraft. But the last one is more optional as i have a beefy pc at home.

Its really just a small upgrade from my phone for use while traveling.

The 16 is too big and too pricy for my usecase and i really like the foldable function of the 12.

Would you recommend the 12 with this description?

I got my FW13 a couple days ago, and I remembered seeing a ton of posts while stalking this subreddit complaining about the speakers. I set it up with pipewire and I don’t know if I’m just uncultured when it comes to the finer aspects of audio stuff but I genuinely think it sounds amazing. Easily 10x better than my old dell laptop. Just wanted to put this out there for those who are debating buying and saw similar posts about audio, the newer boards seem to be better at it and if you set it up properly, it’s really not bad at all imo.

Upgraded my FW13 to the higher res display. I’d rather not let the old panel turn to e-waste, so does anybody here have any tips on how to use it as e.g. a mobile display?

(For anyone who’s wondering: 20ish minute job, a significant portion of which was spent fiddling with the display cable to get it to route nicely around the hinge. Fedora recognised the new display automatically and everything was flawless).

I’ve spent my first month with the new Framework, and I’m seriously considering it to be my last.

It took me a few days to migrate my work to the new laptop. Initially, I was quite happy with the build quality. The keyboard is good, I like the 2.8K display, and the port flexibility is excellent. The laptop feels nice and premium.

I’m using Manjaro Linux with a recent kernel and all necessary drivers.

From the beginning, I started hearing notification sounds. I didn’t pay much attention at first, but eventually, I began to investigate. I traced the issue to a notification triggered by plugging and unplugging the charger.

Digging deeper, I discovered that this is a known issuefor over three years!

https://community.frame.work/t/tracking-battery-flipping-between-charging-and-discharging-draws-from-battery-even-on-ac/22484/445

WTF, Framework?

The power daemon developers tried to "fix" it with special handling for Framework laptops (as I understand it), but the underlying issue still persists. Three years!

Now I want to use my NVMe SSD in an enclosure. This drive worked flawlessly with my old ThinkPad T490. But now, every attempt to work with data fails—filesystems drop into read-only mode due to transmission errors. Again, a known issue:

https://community.frame.work/t/amd-framework-and-nvme-ssd-enclosure-compatibility-investigation/41775

This one has been around for two years!

Is this a joke? I understand Framework is a small company, but having critical UEFI and firmware issues persist this long is ridiculous. Does anyone really expect this will be fixed? Or is the whole community just endlessly discussing it on the forum?

I don’t want to wait years for these problems to be resolved—or to discover even more issues down the line.

So, I’m returning the laptop.

It's been way too long since I last talked about this. And while I won't go "Day N of asking FrameWork for a haptic touchpad", I'd still like to periodically remind you of u/senselinc 's existence
