Friendly tip tip to check your BIOS settings and double check you aren't choking graphical performance by having memory set to 512MB. Pointless story to follow:

I got my FW13 with the Ryzen AI 340 and the hardware experience of putting it all together was lovely, and was a breath of fresh air after a decade old plus Lenovo y510p that I stubbornly kept on Win7. But I got immediate buyers regret when I was getting single digit performance in Brigador. BRIGADOR. A sprite based 2D game. Performance was lacklustre and embarassing compared to a desktop I made for my parents in 2013. I flailed around with distros, Proton versions, began to doubt my hardware purchase (I got a Team Group SSD and RAM) etc. But it was my VRAM setting in BIOS, which somehow I overlooked. I was inadvertently crippling my performance by having VRAM set to minimum. So, you know... change that if it applies to you, lol

Set it to 16 giga-nibbles and experience is now as I'd expect it. Playing undemanding games like I do on this machine I get max possible performance and on a power saver profile the fans lightly spool up. Non distracting at all. They get a bit louder on a performance profile, but they no longer sound like they're trying to to compete with a Pratt and Whitney turbofan. I'm not trying to run Space Marine 2 or anything (I got a gaming system for that tier of game).

Running the laptop basically docked with Fedora KDE with an external monitor @ 1440p/165hz via a KVM and everything seems lovely now.

Has anybody have had their bezel cracked on their framework 13?. I recently bought a new bezel around a month ago, and a crack already formed on it. I have not fiddled with the bezel at all since I put it on, so I suppose it's some design flaw that causes internal stress? Does Framework know of this already?

Only 2.8K though, it seems the 7840U + regular matte combo is already gone for good with manufacturing for the 7840U stopped. Framework staff said this was the final batch, so if you wanted a new 7840U, now's the time. 7640U will be continue to be manufactured for a bit longer.

With the Framework team having figured out how to make an easily replaceble touchscreen that accepts pen input, it would be interesting for the next step to be a surface pro-styled device. It's no secret that the surface pro has been in a steady decline over the years, with competing products being lacking and they moving to ARM for the consumer product, locking x86 behind an insanely expensive business model, an offer from framework with their focus on repairability would be very well received. I think the detachable 2-in-1 format would greatly benefit from the expansion cards, given how limited the connectivity is in products that share this form factor, also since it would be an entirely new product it could be a way to experiment with LPCAMM2 for the memory which, due to its characteristics (form factor, power efficiency and speed) lends itself well for a product like this. Now, of course the price would be high in comparison to the laptop 13 for example, but personally I would really like to see something like this. What do y'all think? would you be interested in seeing a product of this nature from Framework?

PD: sorry if there's bad english on the post, not a native speaker.

Since I know the Framework team is active here, are y'all considering upgrading the Touchpad module, which has been the same since gen 1? Have zero idea what the supplier landscape looks like for these, but I see some manufacturers slowly getting onboard (i.e. Surface) after Apple switched a few years ago.

Would love to drop in a new Touchpad that doesn't get a little loose over time or occasionally need a bit of screw tightening :)

Nirav Patel, the founder and CEO, has considered himself a “hardware guy” since he was a kid, with a lifelong passion for building physical products. His background includes working as a software engineer at Apple, and he was personally recruited to Oculus by its founder, Palmer Luckey. So, what kind of consumer hardware is he creating now—and how has he found success in a space where most others don’t make it? Reinventing Laptops. Computex is this week! We'll have fancy pictures (and maybe even videos) from Computex later, but I wanted to give the community a sneak peek of our booth at Computex.

Im currently looking for a new laptop and i think framework is a good choice.

The primary use would be web surfing, watching movies or yt while traveling, doing light work on MS Office, some network stuff and maybe play games like minecraft. But the last one is more optional as i have a beefy pc at home.

Its really just a small upgrade from my phone for use while traveling.

The 16 is too big and too pricy for my usecase and i really like the foldable function of the 12.

Would you recommend the 12 with this description?

I got my FW13 a couple days ago, and I remembered seeing a ton of posts while stalking this subreddit complaining about the speakers. I set it up with pipewire and I don’t know if I’m just uncultured when it comes to the finer aspects of audio stuff but I genuinely think it sounds amazing. Easily 10x better than my old dell laptop. Just wanted to put this out there for those who are debating buying and saw similar posts about audio, the newer boards seem to be better at it and if you set it up properly, it’s really not bad at all imo.
