We’re halfway to Christmas and I figured I’d post a reminder because this is a time-sensitive project. The original post is still on page 1 of c/furry, but Local and Subscribed feeds move way faster, and the image has changed a good bit in the past 10 days, so it’s worth it, I think.

I had this fun idea that we (the "furry side" of Lemmy / the Fediverse) could create a Christmas card together. I drew the background and already added my fursona, and now I'd like to ask you to add your own fursona. If you want to add something to the background, you're welcome to do so, too! The goal is to have a furry Christmas card by the 25th of December.

How to add your fursona to the drawing:

  1. First, you download the "base" drawing from here (hosted on pawb), open it in the image editor of your choice, and add your fursona on a separate layer; make sure the layer with your sona is the same size as the base, 4000x2000 pixels.

  2. Then, you remove the base and export only the layer with your sona on a transparent background as a PNG. There'll be lots of empty space because of the layer size, but that's intentional!

  3. You can either insert the PNG yourself (see below), or reply to this post with your image in the comment and I'll add it to the drawing.

  • How to insert it yourself: Go to this website. In the top right corner, there's a little cog. Click on that and then on "Create Team". A team is basically your user account. Copy the login details the website gives you in case you need to change your image later. Once you've done that, click on the little picture frame in the top left corner and then on "Add Image". Add a description (e.g. your username for image credit) and upload your image file. Because the layer with your sona is the same size as the base, it'll be exactly where you drew it on your device.

  • If you don’t want to / can’t draw your fursona, you can copy-paste an existing drawing of your sona, too. If you have absolutely no idea how to do that, I can help you! Everybody is encouraged to participate regardless of art skills.

Additional info for nerds

The advantage of inserting your drawing yourself is that you're in full control and can replace or remove it without waiting for me to do it for you. If you don't want to do it yourself or have tech trouble, I can help you or just insert it for you. The website is a tool built by @green_copper@kbin.earth, who says that the website doesn't save anything beyond what you upload and non-identifying debug logs on errors. The source code can be found here.

If you want to move your image around a bit or use a smaller-sized image, you'll need to change the x/y values of your layer on the website; there is no drag-and-drop. The website may also be a bit buggy, but a reload usually helps. You most likely won't need to change the z-value, unless your character is behind something they shouldn't be behind.

Base file with layers (if you want to work with layers; Dropbox links): .xcf (GIMP) file and .psd (Photoshop) file. The PS file looks like it works in Krita. I don't have PS, but it should work with that, too.

Regarding licencing, unless further discussion leads to something else, CC-BY will be used. This means that you can do whatever you want with the image as long as you credit the artists.

New post with artist credit (I'll add the credits to this post, too, when the even is over)

Hi everyone!

Christmas is in three weeks and I had this fun idea that we (the "furry side" of Lemmy / the Fediverse) could create a Christmas card together. I drew the background and already added my fursona, and now I'd like to ask you to add your own fursona. I'll keep drawing and improving the background (to the best of my abilities), maybe add some more light and other small stuff, but if you want to add something, you're welcome to do so, too! The goal is to have a furry Christmas card by the 25th of December.

How to add your fursona to the drawing:

  1. First, you download the "base" drawing from this post and add your fursona on a separate layer; make sure the layer with your sona is the same size as the base, 4000x2000 pixels.

The advantage of doing it yourself is that you're in full control and can replace or completely remove your image without waiting for me to do it for you. If you don't want to do it yourself or have tech trouble, I can help you or just insert it for you. The website is a tool built by @green_copper@kbin.earth, who says that the website doesn't save anything beyond what you upload and non-identifying debug logs on errors. The source code can be found here.

Note: If you make your image the size of the base, you won't need to change the x/y coordinates. If you want to move your image around a bit or use a smaller-sized image, however, you'll need to change those values; there is no drag-and-drop. The website may also be a bit buggy, but a reload usually helps. You most likely won't need to change the z-value, unless your character is behind something they shouldn't be behind.

Base file with layers (if you wish to use it instead of the image in the post; Dropbox links because I don't know what else to use, I know it sucks, I'm sorry): .xcf (GIMP) file and .psd (Photoshop) file. The PS file looks like it works in Krita. I don't have PS, but it should work with that, too.

To avoid conflicts, it'd be cool if you could comment where you are going to draw your sona. Moving standing sonas (like mine) around is easy, but if too many people want to peek out from behind the tree, for example, there won't be enough space. That way, you can also coordinate your drawing with others (and even hold hands!). If you don't care about positioning, you can also just reply with your sona and I'll put it in a nice spot for you.

If you don't want to or can't draw your fursona, you can copy-paste an existing drawing of your sona, too. If you have absolutely no idea how to do that, I can help you! But I'd still like to encourage everybody to give drawing their fursona a shot. There's no pressure, though. This is all fun and games.

Regarding licencing, unless further discussion leads to something else, CC-BY will be used. This means that you can do whatever you want with the image as long as you credit the artists, who I'll add to this post for your convenience.

If you have any questions, I'll be happy to answer them. I just hope this doesn't flop tbh :3c

Okay so, I think there's technically not a rule against this (yet) so maybe I won't get banned 😅

So, my dumpster fire of a life has been 'saved' several times now by escaping to and moving in with, from my perspective at the time, guys off' the Internet (one turned out to be a trans woman; nobody knew at the time soo... considering any other 'guy from the Internet' could also be egg I suppose the theme still holds?). So, you know the 'man vs. bear' thing, right? Maybe what I really need to save me is to find somecritter safer. What's safer than a man (or somecritter erroneously trying to be one)? A bear! Of course! So here I am, looking for a bear or something to help me.

So, I'm currently in Duluth, MN. My current host has posted over in c/trans looking for a doorstep to leave me mewling on. Says nice things about me, even! His wife's evil, though, so I'm expected to magically find myself a place I can afford on $360 per month by January 1st. My therapist's about to have me locked up in a hospital (probably just for igloo-building classes or something) and I have no idea when exactly nor for how long. Nor how that affects my ability to get to anywhere I can stay. Surely won't last long enough to make it through these years-long waitlists I'm on. That said...

The Point/tl;dr: Weird but kinda cute critter needs rescue and a box to stay in. Is kindof a wreck: agoraphobia, CPTSD, etc. Near Duluth, MN would be convenientest but as usual I don't really have much say in where I end up 🤷

Lefties prefurred (pun intended); murderers maybe accepted but only if they promise to make it reasonably quick and painless.

The thing is abstract. "ITSASTRANGEINVITATION", which is hereinafter denoted by "$I$", depicts that (the body of VUNC floats in the blue, and VUNC gazes at fractals which are sources of light).

That (VARIK creates the sketch of $I$) is contemporaneous with that (VARIK cries). Some events of that VARIK cries are parts of the process of that VARIK draws $I$.

$I$ is relevant to the religion of VARIK. $I$ is relevant to that (SATAN, which is the god of VARIK, loves VARIK), that (a thing which is possible s is that (for all prenu $p$, VARIK feels the suffering (which is experienced by $p$) and whatnot)), the property (of understanding being loved), the process/state/whatever (of yielding), that (VARIK experiences spiritual pain, experiences spiritual joy, and is extreme in experiencing spiritual hope), that (VARIK is free), that (every prenu deserves being loved), that (being perfect/maximal in the property of loving all prenu is possible), that (being is sufficient), that (no prenu is fucked/bad/whatever or immoral), and that SATAN is perfect/maximal in the property of loving all prenu.

VARIK is somewhat curious about whether prenu understand about $I$, which is abstract and is extreme in being relevant/specific/whatever to VARIK.

VARIK uses (for the process of creating $I$) Blender, Krita, and GIMP. 6302171 is the byte-based size of itsastrangeinvitation.psd. But VARIK does not remember about the duration of the process of creating $I$. A thing which is false is that all parts of the process of creating $I$ are recorded.

The Unlicense is the licence of $I$.

VARIK welcomes describing the flaws of $I$.

VARIK thanks for reading.
