I'm realively new to sPvP and I want to get better and more competitive. I'm trying to learn as much as possible from youtube and build guides.

I main condi specter and sometimes dabble in a bit of core necro.

One thing I've noticed is that there's players that i cannot manage to even hit once - whilst they bonk me and my teammates down with precise combos and escape healthy as they were on the way in. It's a really confusing and deflating experience

I'm drawn to gw2 pvp because it's not as gear focused as other mmos and the rewards make for a fun progression, but I'm truly daunted by the skill curve and the extremely confusing experiences I'm having getting steamrolled frequently

Im hoping to get alittle bit of insight as to if there anything super obvious that I'm missing and need to work on as a priority?

Sometimes I just get cleaved down super quickly by rogue AoE on the outskirts of a fight making literally 0 impact and its very confusing.

Edit - I'm not at all saying anyone is cheating, I'm just wondering how common this experience is because it's pretty confusing and hard to learn from,

I've wanted to do something in this map for ages! Between the weird interactions with the waterfall physics and exploiting the hell out of the beehives, this is definitely, 100% how the developers thought and intended we would use turtle.

All footage taken solo to disprove the myth that turtle isn't fun/useful without another player. Thanks to u/Bananaaaaaaa7035 who helped me with route ideas!

Hellooooo I am a console pleb,

I’ve never played an mmorpg on keyboard and mouse, I’m a Destiny 2 player… How the heck do I press all the buttons?? Am I supposed to be using a mouse or should I be using two hands for the keyboard? How… do y’all do it? Obviously I’ll get more used to it with time but dang, how am I supposed to move with WASD, attack with the number keys and then attack also with the function keys…? It just seems like a lot of keys to press and I’m overwhelmed and could use some pointers 😂😂

Sorry if this isn’t really what the thread is for but I figured y’all could help lol

Thaaaaanks, :))

Been a couple of weeks since i've been collecting all weekly tokens on a single trip. By the Gods, it feels nice since its more of a chore. PSNA feels the same, u have to log in every single day and fast travel 6 times and i've given up doing it on the sheer boredom. Would be nice to get it done with on a single trip per week, it doesnt help that u probably gonna have to w8 a 2 month rotation to cash it every time

First I want to go over our rules on AI which is very clear.

Per Guild Wars 2 EULA update February 23, 2024 use of Guild Wars 2 content in generative AI applications is a violation of the user agreement. https://en-forum.guildwars2.com/topic/143486-updates-to-the-guild-wars-and-guild-wars-2-eula/

ii. You may not input Our Content into generative AI tools like Midjourney, Dall-E, ChatGPT, AudioCraft, etc. or Use our content to train artificial intelligence models.

Our content is defined in the EULA as:

“Our Content” means art, in-Game content, and similar materials owned or licensed by ArenaNet.

Because violating the EULA can result in your account being terminated, we ban the posting of all AI generated content of any kind to the subreddit not just because of following ArenaNet's rules but because we don't want to be responsible for a user being banned because of a post made here.

We have a reporting option that allows users to report content they suspect is AI generated for the moderation team to look at and decide if action is needed.

The second reason why we ban the posting of all generative AI content is because generative AI is theft. Whether it's images or text, all generative ai responses are stolen from human creations and therefor we ban the posting of all forms of generative AI content be it images, video, or text.

I also recognize the irony and hypocrisy in the above considering everything posted here on Reddit is being sold to Google (and others) for their generative AI use and then we ban the use of genAI on the subreddit. Unless ArenaNet says otherwise though this subreddit will continue to exist.

Is this sub run by ArenaNet

There were some accusations and questions if the subreddit is an official subreddit and we are not. We're not even part of the partner program. ArenaNet has no say on the content of this subreddit nor does the mod team have any communication of any kind with ArenaNet. The entire mod team is unpaid volunteer moderators and none of us have any personal or professional connections with ArenaNet.

So why the ban on AI if we can post whatever we want, as explained above we are doing it to protect users from possibly getting their account terminated as well as just a blanket ban on genAI due to it being theft of human creations.

The Post

The thread in question was reported several times as suspected AI generated content and several users in the comments also made the accusation. A moderator decided to look into the allegations and put the post through generative AI detectors and they said it was genuine so they approved the post and made a comment saying so and reminding users of our rules on AI.

When it comes to seeing whether or not something is AI it's drastically harder to do with text than it is images. As AI is being used more and more we're also getting more reports. We've actually had several posts here in the last few months of people just asking 'What do I ask ChatGPT to learn how to play GW2' or similar.

Some brought up that the post itself did not include any ArenaNet or Guild Wars 2 content. That is correct but as mentioned previously we have a ban on all generative AI content and that includes text posts and comments.

Moving forward

If anyone suspects any content on the subreddit is the creation of generative AI, your job is to report it as such, not attack the OP for it or engage in witch-hunting. If you want to post anything then post proof that the content is genAI the same way you would post proof over stolen artwork or other materials.

When suspected AI generated content is reported it will appear on the modqueue and an individual mod or the mod team will see the report and look into it and will remove or approve the post based on our best opinion towards the content and we may use AI detection tools if necessary and yes we are aware that most of those tools are not very reliable but the decision will not be based just on that. When it comes to images and videos those are generally much easier to tell due to the many obvious signs of genAI imagery.

With regards to the specific situation of that thread we are communicating internally to make sure everyone is on the same page in the future.

Comments in this thread will be left open for discussion but there are no plans at this time to change any of our rules regarding genAI content.

Some time ago someone took me to a Bossfight against a Big "ice ? " -Dragon named Jormag and I was just stunned how epic it was!

The bonechilling voices in the beginning, seeing his shadow in the ice and then him bursting through thhe icewall... left me stunned! I've never seen something like this in a MMORPG ! (ok I haven't played much tbh) !

Well, I wasn't able to open the chests, but i guess its something I can train / level for? ...

My Question: Are there more bosses / storybits that are as impressive as this one?

Hello Again. It's Beta Season again, and that means DATA.

Nothing like an upcoming beta to get me to dust off my unfinished projects. The core of this project started nearly three years ago, and it's about damn time it saw the light of day.

For those who don't know, we're the guys behind the 1.1 million Fractal Encryption data set, the BLC Beta Data events and publication, 40k Mystic Clover data, and the Lunar New Year Addict Confessionals.

tl;drs (look below for more info)

  1. What should the reader of this post know?
    • Forging same-type exotic weapons is currently kinda bad
  2. What is the chance to get a precursor from forging exotic weapons?
    • ~0.83%(+/-.06%) or about 1 in 120 forges.
  3. Is Dawn or Dusk more likely to drop from Greatswords?
    • Forging Greatswords has the same chance to get a precursor as other weapons, which is then split 50/50 between Dawn and Dusk.
  4. Are all the non-precursor weapons equally likely?
    • No, the droprate for level 80 weapons is slightly different from sub-80 weapons.
  5. Will it be profitable ever again?
    • Probably not for a while, the starter kits from Wizards Vault containing free precursors has really hurt this part of the market, and ecto prices make salvaging a much better option as well.

Kick Stater Data Spreadsheet link

100k Forges Spreadsheet link

What the f*** is Kick Stater?

Kick Stater is a crowdfunded data system we have operated a few times from the Overflow Trading Discord to democratize ownership of the data, and keep the data quality consistent. Through that system we funded 42,500 forges of exotic weapons, with a total upfront cost of nearly 60,000 gold. The rest of the 100k forge data comes from our personal data collections, and that of a few other data gurus.

How did you get to these conclusions?

There are a number of statistical formulas and principles used. In the spreadsheets you can find all of the source data, some graphs visualizing some of the conclusions, as well as the binomial and chi-square calculations.

I also uploaded a video "lecture" to my Youtube channel where I explain each conclusion and an overview of relevant statistics topics

What does the upcoming BETA have to do with DATA?

GW2 betas allow you to create special characters with the new beta features, but DOES NOT save the results of anything you do on those characters. This means you effectively have a "sandbox copy" of your bank, wallet and shared inventory, to test out silly things without having to accept the consequences, or just double the amount of data you would collect on live anyway!

The GW2 servers will copy the state of your account upon creating your first Beta Character for the beta period, and all future beta characters you create will share that beta/sandbox account state. That beta/sandbox state will not reset/re-copy no matter how many other characters you create/delete/recreate, so it's important to put anything you want to access in your bank/shared slots BEFORE you make your first character!

Thanks again for reading!

Something about this map absolutely nailed the nostalgic factor. Not even meaning that it was a 1:1 with GW1 fire islands maps. Something about the placement of the enemies and the desolate landscape reminded me of running through GW1 maps.

Anyone else get those vibes from another map?

Good day everyone,

In light of the new expansion releasing - and me currently suffering through maps - I feel the need to voice my concern in hopes of never seeing it implemented like this again. The trend of POI hidden behind Meta and Story. Now hiding it behind meta isn't really the problem but let me begin from the start.

I am an absolute lover of map completion (Core 98 times - others between 20-50 times). I adore it, it saved my sanity/life as a child and still does today. It gives me a weird comfort no other game has ever given me before and for that I am for ever grateful and will probably still do them until the game closes down. I did the majority of Core Tyria map comps pre mounts and I still occasionally do so just for nostalgia. All my characters have every single map in this game at 100% or working on getting them there if they are newer. (And yes I do delete chars with 100% map comp xD they exist briefly just for that)

Now having gotten the basics out of the way, my complaint and why I am begging to never put it in again this way, as it is destroying the fun of it (and from what I gather it isn't just me) - The last expansion maps. It has been the trend twice now and I fear it will continue. Janthir and SoTo both have horrible last maps for completion, with SoTo being the worst by far. My most hated map used to be Gyala Delve, due to the last 4 points taking for ever to obtain but having met Inner Nayos I apologize for that hatred.

Inner Nayos hides 11 poi and 1 Vista behind random events and Metas and 2 behind story. That in itself is already a ridiculous amount, but the 2 behind story take the cake for worst map completion design ever. You cannot just start chapter 18 to get them, you would have to play through the entire 17th chapter and then the entire start of chapter 18 to get them. It takes a good chunk of time for 2 poi, and it is a drag the more often you have to do it. I know this is optional but as a standalone design it just isn't fun. (I luckily have a good friend that plays the instances with me so I don't have to do the story 20+times but it still takes a considerable amount of time and it tends to bug out in duo, needing a restart.) It also does not help that the Metas on this map don't run on a set timer but on event triggers - so planning when i do it gets annoying and inconvenient really fast.

Bava Nisos is a little better in terms of getting them but a whooping 30% are locked behind the meta, and you HAVE to do it during as the timer after at 5 minutes is really tight. Slight annoyance but still a trend from Inner Nayos that continues and worries me.

I am sorry for this little rant I just needed to get it off my chest. Map completion should be relaxing not stressing me out if I will be able to get to the poi in time for no apparent reason. It is unfun and I don't understand why this was a choice and I am hoping deeply it will never be a choice again. I also worry that in the future when maps die down, they get even harder to obtain by one self. So please, Arenanet, do not do this again! Keep it at the few poi behind scheduled metas, those are completely fine usually. Or maybe make them obtainable somehow without it.

Thanks! A lover of the game and Map Completion <3

TLDR: The 4th expansion maps as of recent are awful to 100% - Please don't let it be a trend.

Edit: Thanks all for the discussion and sharing of good and bad memories :) I do want to add, I'm aware it isn't new, and I don't have anything against it. It's all about the severity of it and that there are a few that could easily be fixed by moving them a bit or let the trigger be larger. They did do this in Amnytas retroactievely to one PoI! I hope you all have a good day and may rng be with all of you! <3
