Apparently there are 6,000 units of this mystery pedal ready to ship.

In this episode host Adam Wakeling speaks with Jamie Stillman, Founder of EarthQuaker Devices about the impact of tariffs on small US businesses; why Jamie is not concerned about the current generation of digital modelers like the Quad Cortex and Helix, as well as how EarthQuaker Devices approaches product development at the company.

Universal Audio have a big firmware update for their amp emulator pedals (Dream, Woodrow, Enigmatic, Ruby, Lion, etc) that adds MIDI over USB-C. Linking HP42's video as I don't see an announcement on UA's own blog.

My Mooer Preamp Live kicked the bucket, so it was a good excuse to work on an experiment I had been thinking about for a while now. I made a doom metal approved studio setup using only Sonicake pedals. The Rude Mouse is a Rat clone with a clean boost and the Shark emulates a bunch of Marshall preamps.

I still want to put the Hot Tube side of my Hot Wax before the IR loader to get some tube saturation, even though it already sounds heavy.

I've also bought a Joyo Oxford Sound to set up an Orange rig, but I'm still looking for that sweet spot, also with a Big Muff.

It's the eternal quest of every guitarist to create their dream tone. In 2024, I went back on tour for the first time in 4 years, and I needed to build a new Fractal stage rig. I filmed myself going through a Big Box Of Fuzz pedals for a new series that walks you through my testing process and judging criteria.

1 Does the pedal create a unique sound or character?
2 Does it clean up well?
3 Does it stack with other pedals?
4 Could I recreate it in the Fractal if I had to save space in the rig?

The mods in the previous video on a Boss DS-1 didn't sound too shabby, huh? Well, let's head into the strange world (if I say unknown world, it freaks me out). We armed ourselves with switches, diodes, cables, and started experimenting like crazy.

I use my bass amp for guitar practice at home, because I'm primarily a bass player and it works well enough. I'm currently using a Harley Benton Drop Kick for distortion plus a 7-band EQ which gets me a decent enough sound, but I'm looking for more variety. Especially something high gainy for a modern-ish metal riff tone. My current setup is unsurprisingly pretty good at stoner/desert rock stuff, though the amp is not nearly as dark as you'd think.

My guitar is a Yamaha Pacifica with a bridge humbucker, currently tuned to C standard, amp is a Fender Rumble 25, older version.

Anyone have an idea what would work well here? Maybe a Boss MT-2 or clone thereof? I read it's decent if you use the effects loop to skip the amp's preamp section (my amp does have an effects loop), but I'm not quite sure if it's the right pick for the kind of unconventional setup I have, or if it would even be a good choice for modern metal tone even if I did use a guitar amp. I'm trying to keep the budget reasonable, btw, so please no boutique pedals.

I could get a proper guitar amp, but space is a bit limited here and bedroom-sized combos don't usually do a great high gain sound on their own, anyway.

Cioks 4 extender being powered by a battery bank all built into a temple audio pedal board

Super cheap Amazon guitar transmitters are gonna need an upgrade but obviously I need 2 pairs and the real ones are super expensive

My bedroom playing and ease of access to my pedal collection is fucking set though

I didn't see like a direct announcement from StewMac.

So I have a weird thing going on with my pedal board. First, my signal chain - Guitar into Bogner Harlow (light compression, always on) -> 4 channel switcher -> TC Mimiq (splits signal)

SW Ch 1 - TC Nether sub octaver SW Ch 2 - DOD Carcosa fuzz SW Ch 3 -Digitech Bad Monkey SW Ch 4 - Joyo Ultimate Drive (OCD clone)

Mimiq L out -> modded Jet City 22w head -> passive attenuator -> old Laney 2x12” cab (dark as all hell, sounds awesome)

Mimiq R out -> reverb/delay/trem -> Laney Cub 10” 15w input (hemp cone, different valves, again sounds awesome, cleans up well)

I’ve spent a while balancing everything, getting the gains to all play nicely, except… the Ultimate Drive for some reason is really quiet through the Jet City. The Carcosa fuzz sounds brutal through both amps, but really drives the Jet City hard. I switch to the UD, and the volume of the Laney stays pretty high, but the Jet City shuts right up. I’ve fiddled every way I can think of, to no avail. The UD is a loud pedal, with huge amounts of volume and gain on tap, but it’s just not doing much for the JC amp. Any ideas?

Boss has ushered in a new era for its compact effects pedal catalog by unveiling the PX-1 Plugout FX – a ‘convertible’ stompbox that lets players load up and play through a generous range of the firm’s legendary effects from one unit.

It’s an interesting move from Boss, whose collection of compact effects pedals is the stuff of guitar legend, from the OD-1 – deemed by many as one of the most important stompboxes of all time – to the CE-2, which took over the guitar world upon its release.

Now, with the PX-1, guitarists can browse, upload, and play through many of those popular effects through the convenience of a single stompbox, which carries the same visual and functional layout of a standard compact Boss pedal.

Recently caught Cardinal Black on their US tour, decided to take a pic of Chris's board. He's covered on his YouTube channel here. I wore my That Pedal Shirt hoping for a notice and a shout out, and he did! Every couple of songs Chris was standing one foot on the RE-202 self-oscilation and the other on the way treadle.

The show was great. Band was tight and tone was great. The opening act was Welsh folk singer Tom Jenkins and he was top notch. They had him come out and strum rhythm for a good portion of their set, too.

I'd estimate the audience was maybe 60% Chris Buck nerds and 30% someone the nerds dragged with them! 😅

I'm using this board in an upcoming show, and it's been working great for me so far, so I thought I'd share. The pedal order is a little weird, but It's what worked to make it all juuuust barely kinda fit. It goes: Tuner (love the strobostomp!) > KO noisegate (simple, cheap, effective) > Morley power fuzz wah > Cali 76 > JHS Bonsai (got it to try out a bunch of ts styles, but I think I've just landed on the ts10 so I may just get one of those and simplify a bit) > Caroline Somersault (I like some drive before and some drive after modulation) > Turbo Bandicoot (my own design! This is a rat with an added bass control, switchable parametric eq, and clipping options) > Boss RE-202 (almost always on to provide a bit of halo) > Blue Colander Tibetan Quaalude (colors everything and adds a bit of tasty dirt before heading to the amp).

This thing is so sick, digital micro amps absolutely stink at taking pedals. I just made my pedal board battery powered and this is as good as listening to my amp through a load attenuator. Put a clean boost and any other pedal you want and it sounds heavenly. Tried it with a plumes and a sunn life pedal and both were religious experiences. Ran it through the avalanche run and I was tripping out on my kitchen counter. I love u Jamie Stillman

Robert Keeley – founder of Keeley Electronics – has apparently invented a drive pedal that doubles as a weed vape. Only trouble is, he’s not allowed to sell it online due to restrictions on vaping products and, of course, weed.

It's a multi-effect pedal with 12 different effects that can be routed into each other or in parallel.

We stopped by to see our beloved friend and guitar legend Zakk Wylde to talk about his pedalboard. Watch as Zakk showcases how his pedals sound.

“I like to keep it as simple as possible,” Zakk states about his relatively straightforward but highly effective rig. “Basically, it’s the same exact meat-and-potatoes setup I’ve been using ever since I did ‘Miracle Man’ with Ozzy. I enjoy trying out new things ’cause it’s fun, but these pedals definitely work for me, which is why they’ve been on my pedalboard beyond forever. They can take a severe beating and give me all the sonic ingredients I need to make my soup — be it a Black Label soup, an Ozzy soup, a Pantera Celebration soup, or an Experience Hendrix soup.”

Juan and Nick Reinhart used to do a YouTube show/series called Pedals and Effects and run a site under the same name that did some really non-traditional demos of great pedals. It was basically two dudes in a garage nerding out about gear which was great.

It looks like Juan's accident really messed up his speech but he has been posting a lot of YouTube shorts of him playing bass lately so I'm hoping he gets better.

Baroness got me the Two Kings kit from Stew Mac. Just finished inventory of the resistors, diodes, capacitors, etc. I'm not really sure how to measure diodes or capacitors with a multimeter. I don't even have a farad option on it.

For some guitarists, there’s nothing that comes close to the sensation of chaining a dozen stompboxes together and creating atmospheric loops and drones that swirl, fizz and bubble into the realms of infinity – ahh, ambient guitar and music. Exploring ambient guitar pedals is a rite of passage for anyone who’s off-put by the cranked amps and power stances that tend to dominate popular guitar music, and translate just as well to the studio and stage as they do when you’re jamming solo at home.

The CEO and co-founder of the Ohio-based off-kilter pedal makers EarthQuaker Devices, Julie Robbins, has shared that the business is at risk of going bankrupt by the end of the year as a result of recently enacted tariffs, which have reportedly increased costs and slowed sales for the company.

At 10:00 AM US Central time. They have 5,000 units ready to ship, with sales to go live right as the video drops. They have inventory for either 10k or 15k more if the initial drop sells out. It's a kit in the style of the Notaklön, but it doesn't sound like it's a clone.

Meet the Notadümblë. At $119, it has the aura (watch the video). A 2-channel pedal with a single foot switch and a toggle switch channel selector.

The NOTADÜMBLË is a DIY pedal kit from JHS Pedals that puts a half-million dollars of tone at your feet. With the flip of a slider switch, you can go between two highly sought after sounds that are as magical and rare as it gets. In the Drive setting–slider up–you get the dirty and distorted violin-like sounds you know from guitarists like Santana, Joe Bonamassa, and Eric Johnson. In the Clean position–slider down–you get a powerful preamp buffer pulled directly from John Mayer's rare and never before replicated device
