What even was that? Like they rolled out some white tarps, put some dudes from a nearby garage on the bass and drums, had the cheerleaders do their normal dance moves on the tarp, and then some guy just walks around rapping? Where’s the pageantry, the fireworks, the John madden tribute for fucks sake? There was nothing.

Sorry for the rant… Go Lions!

  5. Niners 7-3 Key wins: Cowboys, @Jags

  6. Jags 7-3 Key win: @Saints

  7. Dolphins 7-3 Key win: None

  8. Saints 5-5 Key wins: None

  9. Browns 7-3 Key wins: @Ravens, Niners

  10. Seahawks: 6-4 Key wins: @Lions, @Browns

  11. Texans 6-4 Key wins: Saints, @Jags

  12. Cowboys 7-3 Key wins: Just mediocre

Division winners are guaranteed a top 8 seed. The top 4 seeds have a first round bye. Reseeding doesn’t exist for future rounds. Of course key wins would change week to week depending on their opponent’s record and teams in the 12 team playoffs. Only wins against top 12 teams are considered key wins. Also head to head logic, eye test, SOR and SOR plays a role into the rankings.

Post title. someone did a graph of number of favorable penalties on third down a few years ago. Can we do the same for supposedly 50/50 plays that get reviewed?

There was a segment they were trying food by a local restaurant owner and Terry put his arm around her and creepily kissed her cheek. Was super weird and she looked uncomfortable. Dude needs to be fired.

For us it’s the Seahawks. It seems like the Eagles cannot beat them. Even in our Super Bowl year we still lost to them. What team always beats your favorite team whenever they play?

We all know the game is trending towards making it harder to play violent defense. Which current defense would have instilled fear like the Ray Lewis led Ravens?

I would say the current Ravens would. Big strong backers, a safety with potential for violence, and aggressive pass rushers.

I'm using a simplified/modified Colley Matrix iteration process (https://www.colleyrankings.com/method.html)

To summarize, you take the win percentage of every team and correct it against the win percentage of their opponents. Then you have a new win percentage. And I repeat that process until the correction factor is below .001. Essentially this is what I would expect the win percentages to be if the teams played an average team every week.

Every year, I have to explain to my mother the difference between a Quarterback and a Cornerback.

So I have been badgering you guys for weeks now with ratings, statistics, standard deviations, etc... But just like back in middle school, during holiday weeks math teachers are too lazy to write lesson plans.

Therefore everyone gets the holiday off from any math, calculations, conceptualizing or crunching! Enjoy your turkey, personally I'd prefer an easter egg.

Instead I would like to offer the story about a player, Lester Hayes, who is now known more for his infamy, than for how good a player he was.

Imo, Hayes is a HOF player being kept out because, just like a notorious hoodie wearing coach we all know, he kind went into the grey area when it came to the rules at the time.

Maybe if enough people review Hayes' stats, the NFL Senior Selection Committee will at least take a look at his career and statistics for HOF consideration.

You can read the full story here: 1980 – The Year Lester Hayes Broke The NFL – The Stickum Saga

TLDR: Just watch the 3 min vid below and you will get the general gist of the Stickum story. However, it does not even begin to touch on how good a player Hayes was.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Bypl5bpZF8

There is more to the story, including Hayes' remarkable 1980 playoff performance and the history of Stickum in the NFL, so I hope you can find the time to read the full article.

Happy Holiday to all celebrating today. Enjoy the time with friends, family & football!

Quick Synopsis

Lester Hayes in the 1980 regular season

  • 13 interceptions in the regular season - The modern NFL record that still stands.
  • 7 interceptions in a 6 game stretch.
  • Streaks of 6 consecutive games and 4 consecutive games with interceptions.
  • Picked off at least one pass in 12 games of a 16 game regular season.
  • 5 Post season interceptions.
  • 18 interceptions in 20 games.

Lester Hayes Career

  • Won 1980 NFL Defensive Player of the Year
  • Won Two Superbowls - 1980, 1983
  • 5 time Pro Bowl Selection
  • All Pro 1st team once & 2nd team five times
  • 39 career interceptions
  • 8 career post season interceptions
  • 7 fumble recoveries

In the 34 game stretch that began with the final 2 games of 1978, all of 1979, and all of 1980, Lester Hayes recorded 23 Interceptions, for 407 return yards, and 3 Touchdowns.  It is a span of modern* defensive cornerback greatness that I can only find one instance that is close to matching it.

In the first 34 games of his career, Everson Walls recorded 22 Interceptions and returned 1 for a touchdown.  I could find no other modern* NFL player who could even get close to 20 interceptions over a 34 games span.

*Dick "Night Train" Lane had 25 INT in his first 34 games in 1952-54, and holds the record for most interceptions in a season with 14.

Lester Hayes 34 game span in which he recorded 23 interceptions. He added 5 more in the 1980 playoffs.

With the Thanksgiving game today. I thought it would be a good time to look back at how many QB injuries happened against the Seahawks, and how a handful of them altered the direction of the Franchise.

2022 Week 2: Trey Lance -> Jimmy G (Season Ender)

Trey Lance's debut as the full-time starter (w/full offseason of starter reps) was cut short due to a fractured ankle, ending his season. This pushed Brock Purdy from the third-string position to the backup role.

2021: Week 4 Jimmy G -> Trey Lance (1 game missed)

This one wasn’t as big or significant. Jimmy suffered a calf injury and missed 1 game.

2020 Week 8: Jimmy G -> Nick Mullens (Season Ender)

Jimmy Garoppolo's ankle injury sidelined him for the remainder of the season. This injury caused the season to derail, and ultimately gave the 49ers 12th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. 49ers infamously traded this pick and two additional first round picks for Trey Lance. Kyle Shanahan said in an interview that a reason they made this move was because “they didn’t anticipate having such a low draft position in the near future”.

2017 Week 12: CJ Beathard -> Jimmy G

The 49ers had traded for Jimmy G at the trade deadline. He didn’t play right away due to needing to learn the playbook. CJ Beathard’s injury forced the 49ers to insert Jimmy into the lineup. The 49ers proceeded to go 5-0 and give Jimmy a 5 year $137.5 million deal.

Alex Smith injury in 2007

Smith suffered a season ending shoulder injury vs the Seahawks in week 3. This injury really set him back, and I would argue his shoulder/arm was never the same. He had nice zip and velocity before his injury.
