I know it's a bit of a Dream Theater homage of a tune. But This song absolutely fucking bangs

Found this band last night and it's my latest obsession. Excited to see that there's already an active prog metal community here!

The new album from Haken took some time till it found its way into my brain. I really love their work, have seen them live three times before corona hit.

Really a big fan of Destiny Potato, a project of David Maxim Micic. They only released one album, but this is pure gold.

This band's been playing in my local scene for two decades, pretty surreal to see them take 9th spot at Eurovision with this one.

Sister Sin - Chaos Royale

This isn't exactly new, but I like it. It's a Swedish band with opinions. I have honestly not analyzed their texts all that much, so if I'm wrong about them being progressive I'll remove the post. Bonus: The Baboon Show - Radio Rebelde It's a bit more towards punk, but definitely progressive.

Edit: fixed link. Edit 2: dammit.

The first Steven Wilson produced album is my pick for the classic Opeth album, expanding the template set on Still Life.

From Angrymetalguy

Blackwater Park, however, is so silky smooth. It glides from one moment, one idea, to the next like quicksilver, without ever sacrificing the heaviness that made Oldpeth so special. Åkerfeldt’s vocals feel more polished than ever, with both his reedy cleans and death metal roars bursting with power and emotion, while the riffs and leads laid down by him and Peter Lindgren, together with the huge bass performance from Martin Mendez, gives the whole record a gorgeous, rich texture.

I really like Symphony X, but haven't really stumbled on other progressive metal bands that I would return to listen to (although to be fair I haven't looked very deep into smaller bands).
I'm interested in hearing bands that you think are either similar to or general recommendations from someone with similar tastes.
To me SX just finds a cool balance of being at the same time over the top but still a bit restrained and melodic (with "good taste")
