It's the TV youtube client with ads blocked by default*. I just added the flatpak to Steam and set up the controls as a game pad and it worked flawlessly.

*Mostly. There's one sponsored video at the top of the feed like normal YouTube, but that's it as far as I can tell.

Not even karma farming I just never realized there was more to games since I used to have an Xbox. It's like a Linux desktop, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch combined into one. It feels like it was made for me in particular, as someone who has always wanted to mod games but was too stupid to use a PC.

So the title kinda explains it, what would be your ideal MMORPG for the SD. (I know this question has been asked probably a million times now) But I’m partly asking to see if I can make a few new friends to game with too lol.

I’m curious what you all enjoyed the most? I’d rather not have to download anything extra or boot up the game a certain way. Mainly inquiring on games you can just download off of the Steam store and play. I’ve been playing GW2 and looooove it, but I know there is a huge world of MMORPGs out there.

Truth be told I’d also hope this post can partly serve as a platform for others to connect! The more that play the better lol

Thanks !!

I hope you all have a great Monday!

What’s a game you started on the Steam Deck but kind of wish you’d played on PC instead, for better graphics or just a smoother experience?

And the opposite too: any game you played on PC that you think would’ve been more fun or comfy on the Deck?

For me, I started Hades 2 on PC and switched to the Deck after a few hours, it just felt nicer to play handheld. On the other hand, I tried Baldur’s Gate 3 on the Deck but gave up after a few minutes. The text was way too small, I couldn’t stand it.

Curious to hear what games you guys switched between! :)

Whenever my life gets busy especially with work now, I always turn to the Steam Deck to squeeze in some extra gaming time. I never had much time to play on my gaming PC as much as I used to. But with the Steam Deck I could now fit in some gaming time in between going to work as I have a long bus commute. Before I just was on my phone waiting till I go home before I had to go to bed in an hour and barely play at all. But having the Deck helped a lot. Anyone else in a similar situation?

I've had a steamdeck for a couple years, one of the pre-orders back in the day. Absolutely love it.

Also let me play more PC games with my son, him on my desktop me on the steamdeck.

My wife and I decided he was old enough to get his own steamdeck. She kept an eye out on facebook marketplace until we found a good deal, and snagged it. (LCD model).

I wiped it, gave it a cleaning to as close to as new condition as possible (it was already very clean, had original case and screen cloth).

Yesterday we finally got to give it to him for his 9th Birthday. When he opened it, his initial reaction was a little subdued. Happy? But subdued. When we set it up and he started playing on it, he got a little more excited. And finally, a couple hours later he was over the moon excited / disbelief that he really had one.

Turns out...when he opened it, he thought it was my steamdeck. Not sure exactly what all went through his head, but I know he's heard us talk about finances, and us being more watchful of our spending / eating out. So I guess he thought we couldn't afford a gift for him, so I was giving him mine? Then seeing that it really was his...that he finally owned his own gaming system rather than everything being the "Families".... he was just ecstatic.

He also loves recording videos with his toys, using an old ipad 2 that still kinda functions. So we got a good webcam and I installed OBS and Openshot. Started teaching him how to do basic video editing. He had so many ideas he had trouble falling asleep because he was thinking of all the new things he could do with basic transition effects, etc. He's already recorded and edited his first video on it. Part of showing him it's a full PC. (And introducing file / folder structure, etc to boot!).

All this to say...I absolutely love this device, opens up so many possibilities. It's basically the device I've wanted for 20 years and never thought would exist. And now it's made a birthday memory that will never be forgotten!

I'm a boomer gamer and one of the things that was keeping me away from playing was the need to be sitting in front of the computer or the TV. Xmas 2023 I find out about handheld devices (believe or not I had heard about the Switch but back then I didn't know what it was), I make my comparisons and I get the one that I find the more interesting, the Steam Deck, in my case because it had the lower volume on the fan and I intended to play some quiet nights at work, but I'm no tecchie so using Linux is not a plus for me. Also because the Oled screen, although I didn't know how good the Oled screen is. So for months the Steam Deck is my only gaming device, I just go into Steam and I play my games and, of course, I buy more games than I can play in a lifetime, the standard procedure, for around a year. Come november 2024, I hear about the Switch 2, I've NEVER owned a Nintendo system so I decide it is the moment to get a Switch. I get the Oled. I play a lot of games and I start to get into Zelda, so I delve into their older systems, I get some, I play some older Zelda games, but I can't play some of them the way I'd like to. So I remember I can emulate using the Steam Deck but I've never paid attention to how to make it; that's something I've never done before, not even with my PC (which, for gaming purposes, I just used to join Steam and play). I read many posts in this r/ and I learn to emulate and OMG does the Steam Deck allow for emulation, what a machine it is. It also makes me lose the fear to tinker with the SD. I don't think I had ever gone to Desktop Mode before that and now I've gotten used to the change in the control scheme and I browse it confidently and without hesitation. It takes me to install all the launchers for the few non-steam games I have. Not a problem and everything is fluid and runs smoothly. I install decky and tinker with it. Last week, while on a trip and away from my SD, I hear about Geforce Now integration. Not the minor idea what it was, so I investigate a bit. I can play games through streaming? What? I don't need to install them and I can play games that overcome the Deck's capabilities? I got home yesterday, I don't work today. I go through all the process in maybe half an hour. I've always wanted to play Alan Wake 2. I get it through the launcher I installed, I don't even have to install its 100 Gb so I don't have to delete any of my games, I launch Geforce and I launch the game. Boom, runs perfect. I just can't believe what this machine can do and weren't it for the community I'd never have enjoyed half the possibilities the machine offers. So I'm as impressed with the SD as I'm thankful to the community. Thanks, guys! You've made a noob feel like an engineer and have made me enjoy a lot in the process!

I’ve been using the Amazon Luna controller when docked and it’s really solid, I enjoy it more than the Xbox controller. Which ones do you commonly use?

I recently have bought a steam deck and its set to arrive within the coming days, I move around alot but often find myself with alot of down time, though not at home, part of the reason I bought the deck, I'm wondering what games would be good binging on the deck?

Previously Enjoyed Games: RDR2 and cult of the lamb

Preferred Genres: Story driven, and FPS

Budget: Not really a budget but I'm not looking to spend 60-70$

Other Notes: This is the 3rd time I've re-written this post just to appease the Auto-Bot

I can’t stand FSR. It looks SO bad.

If a game has performance issues on my SD (like the latest Stellar Blade demo), I always opt to run it at a lower resolution and typically without AA than to turn on FSR.

Anyone else?

Sorry AMD, FSR is nowhere near DLSS. I’d rather live with jaggies than have a game look smeared and dithered.

So we all know that people who have a problem with something are far more likely to post about it than people who didn't. I am REALLY reticent to apply this update due to all of the issues I have read about, but it sure doesn't look like Valve is in a huge hurry to get a fix out. So what I want to know is: who has applied the 3.7.8 update and come out on the other side completely unscathed? I don't want to take anything away from the people who have had issues; their complaints are completely valid and it certainly sounds like this update has had more problems than others, but has it applied to ANYONE clean the first try?

Prefixes are located in "/home/deck/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata" (ty, u/phil_davis, for correcting me) folder.

I play a lot of GoG and Uplay games and recently I decided to clean up old prefixes. It was an instant +10 Gb of free space.

Each non-steam game (that uses proton) you add occupies anywhere from 0.5 to 1.5 Gb, so don't forget to delete it's prefix folder, after you no longer need it. Remember, however that this is where your saves are stored, so back it up somewhere.

Hi all. Just posting the monthly update for the site. A couple of years back I started gathering links to stuff I thought were cool. Then, I started posting them here and asking the good people of this sub for their suggestions on what could be added, their favourite mods, fan games, PC ports etc. Over time the list grew a bit too big to maintain through posts alone, so I cobbled together this little site.

Plenty of additions this month. The Star Fox PC port (Starship) received an update that makes it way easier to get it up and going in the Steam Deck. A load of in progress decompilations came to light as well. An extremely rare game (apparently, there is only one known physical copy in existence), Tripipitaka, was preserved and uploaded for anyone to try. Although, you'll need to brush up on your Japanese to understand what the hell is going on. Banjo-Kazooie Nostalgia 64 was also finally released and is now available for everyone to enjoy. And loads of other stuff.

As always, if you know of any cool decompilations, fan games, mods or anything like that that you would like to have added to the site, please let me know in the comments below.

Enjoy 👍
