OK, I guess technically that's a forward pass but it's not really in the spirit of the rules, is it? That's effectively a handoff and should be treated as such re: possession
My take is he had firm control and then lost control while adjusting his hands. I know it's bang bang, but he essentially got two full steps in before that ball came out. If he doesn't try to juggle that to himself he still had it, it's not like that ball was lose and he was juggling to get possession
