Google Chat is rolling out instant voice meetings — similar to Slack's Huddles — that let you quickly switch to a voice or video call from within a chat.

It has its place. It can allow you to keep up with people that can't install apps on work PCs or bring their phones in due to security.

I have a handful of people that I sue Google chat with on a fairly regular basis. One fits the above situation.
