Around the world, there are no reports of anyone disappearing or suddenly ascending while plenty of the devout and desperate commit suicide by the thousands.

There's a movie similar to this where a guy finds out there's an afterlife and so millions of people start killing themselves.

The ending was wild.

I believe the movie he is referring is The discovery (2017).

I remember thinking it was an ok movie.

That is correct. It's not like a 5 star film or anything like that but it's an interesting concept.
