Continuing my journey to discover new music. Today happens to be The Carpenters.

Seems like I know many of these songs but sung by others.

Very apt for a Friday.

Such a sad story, The Carpenters.

Karen Carpenter was apparently a good drummer, too.

I just did read it. Absolutely heart breaking.

She weighed 35kg at the end. I honestly can't imagine an adult weighing less than a 10-year-old. 😞

If you like the Carpenters, maybe try The Captain & Tenille of Skyrockets In Flight fame.

Karen had a unique voice. Bearing in mind that all her recordings were pre-autotune, she always hit the exact middle of the note she was singing. No hovering up and down even when doing vibrato. Apparently this is a rare talent when it's natural.

Karen Carpenter is a fucking God!

I have never thought about why her voice brings such comfort. Now I understand.

She is beloved by anyone with perfect pitch. Even most opera singers can't hit a note the way she can. And it was all pre-auto tune which imo makes it all the more impressive.

I did notice the vocals were crisp as. Songs are cheesy, but super feel good vibes.

My favourite. It's not theirs but I like it because it's different to what they normally do and she does a rippin' job.

I have heard this before and never knew who sang it. It's great.

Hank Williams wrote and sung it. A lot of artists have covered it. All sung differently but I think Karen does it the best.

[–] Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 2 points 5 months ago

Nah, Hank was the best. Karen's is good, but Hank's is better.

I grew up with Carpenters, one of those bands that were daggy so no one admitted they loved them, but everyone did love them.

they have the sweetest love songs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaOyoVS-IAI ( that really is beautiful )

I'm at an age where I have no shame regarding music. Give me the cheesiest, daggiest shit and I'll embrace it.

As a kid who who was into computers in the 80's - a period where that was social suicide, my music tastes were the least of my problems! 😆
The 80's meant I was late to the party, but my music was mostly what my older siblings played and my sister loved The Carpenters.
