Well, first off, way too many communities are already there. What's the point of coming to a federated service if we end up with most of it in the hands of the few admins again?

Yeah but this meme refers to abandoned communities. I get creating new communities on other instances, but there's nothing wrong with adopting an abandoned community that is already there.

That makes sense. It's when there hasn't been a post or active mod in over a year where I think it's best to start over.
