It's almost like atheists base morals and ethics off humanity and not fear of retribution

I think a given Christian, confronted with the directive with killing an innocent person directly (say by shooting them in the face with a pistol) would find it difficult, even if their minister told them God commanded them to do so.

Our ethics are mostly based on feelings and empathy, though we have a lot that are based on principle. The MAGA folk and the White Christian Nationalist movement try to favor loyalty (to Trump, to the church, to the movement) above all else.

The Russians invading Ukraine are predominantly Christian / The Crusades / The systematic destruction of the Mayan culture & language / the cultural destruction caused in greece. There are so many examples that religion/Christianity does NOT teach peace, it teaches obedience.

The "Just War Cause" was created by St. Augustine if I remember. The criteria to make war justified was 1. "Do we have the right to go to war" and 2. "Do we conduct ourselves correctly at war".

2 isn't even a criteria if you haven't performed it yet.. We promise we aren't going to rape enslave or torture them. Oh wait we did it anyways but you know, we didn't think we were going to before it started so we can't take it back now.

Why does war happen, money and greed. Who is God? Money and greed. Why do we kill our brethren, because God Wills It

and lets be clear about #2, the answer was always "yes", because for the longest time, it was considered a duty to rape and pillage the enemy. Only around ww1, when we were facing and fighting people that were basically the same as us did we start ti think "hey, maybe we shouldn't be total assholes". and but it still happens. in every conflict. probably in every battle.

A few years back, I went to this dinner organised by a group of "Christian Union" student clubs from a couple of universities where they brought along people from other religions/beliefs to have discussions.

They told me that Christianity is not a moral compass.

I was at least grateful for their honesty, for admitting all one need to do is accept Jesus and all your sins are forgiven.

It's honestly scary they feel people can have a free pass to do whatever and still get into heaven.
