I receive a call from a random QLD landline number.
Person: I'm [name] from [company]
Me: What's the purpose of this call?
Person: I can't tell you, first I need to confirm your identity.
You call ME and can't tell me why you're calling until I divulge my personal information? I told this person you can say something very generic about the call reason just so I can confirm you are who you say you are before I hand over my PI, but she refused citing their stupid policies. So I ended the call.
My company has this too, pretty awkward. I normally already spoke to the person and I start with "Hi it's Force, I spoke you last week about X - before I can go any further though I do need to ask you for X Y Z.". Lots of ppl still prefer to end the call and call back on our main phone number though, which is fair enough
At least you give some details, that would have been enough for me. This person gave me absolutely nothing except her name and company, and it's not someone I had ever dealt with.
yeah nope no chance. You call me outta the blue and ask for info is gonna be a big fat no.
I've had callers tell me I am rude for not answering questions
I just hang up
Nope, I'm giving nothing the caller doesn't already have. I will confirm they have correct info if they provide it, however. This is just basic phone security - no competent company would expect a cold call recipient to start giving them information.
And if they're not competent, I have no business talking to them.
That means centrelink is not competent. I have had them call and ask for my details
I am not changing my comment, except maybe to broaden it from "company" to "organisation". 😃
