Bluesky's "federation" is bullshit and allows countries to request bans on users. It came out that Turkey had a pro-Palestinian user banned which they complied with. I don't use it but I hear Mastodon has more true federation.

Anyone can request bans. Bluesky didn’t ban anyone. If you think the EU couldn’t come down on admins & servers in the EU you’re wrong

That's exactly why federation in name only isn't enough. It doesn't matter if it's Turkey, the EU, or Russia. Countries writ large shouldn't have the ability to control or direct online discourse in any way. It's ridiculous how okay with that everyone is.
