5y is the potential max sentence. The trial itself starts in September, I think.
In this sense, I feel that the writers of the article are attempting to rage-bait us. It definitely caught me.
It's fairly normal for prosecutors to charge more than will stick because we have guaranteed defense and due process, ostensibly.
