Question 1

Hi! I am an AMAB enby living in Edinburgh. I was wondering if, other than the LGBTQ+ society at my university, there was any sort of community/group/Discord server for non-binary people in my area.

Question 2

I was just watching some movies from the 1920s, and I felt some sort of connection. Obviously, things are better nowadays than in the 1920s (apart from the politics), but I was wondering what the non-binary experience would have been like back then, apart from the obvious xenophobia etc etc.

Question 3

I would like to try dressing more femme. I tried a skirt last year, but it was a midi skirt (I think mini would suit me better) and it was far too tight anyway (damn nonstandard sizing). Physiologically, I am shorter than most AMABs in the UK, but otherwise average, and stockier than the average enby. Could anyone give me any advice for skirts and dresses?

Hey friend!

For skirts: honestly, what works best for me for clothing that doesn't conform to agab is to go for stuff that has the measurements written out. Get a tape measure and figure out the narrowest circumference around your belly. That's your waist. Then the widest circumference around your hips. Depending on where you want your skirt to sit, the waist band size should be between those two measurements. I find that bottoms sit better when they're only tight in one place, such as a circle or pleated skirt vs a pencil one. Maybe that'll be different for you if you don't mind revealing your hip shape! Also, just go to second hand shops (I remember some good ones from Edinburgh, though I've only been there to visit a friend), and try, try, try things on.

Oh and, what's helped me tremendously is to learn to tailor a little bit. Men's trousers are often too tight in the hip for me and then still have a weird gap at my waist. So I just slightly change them. Also, depending on the type of clothing, re hemming stuff is some of the easiest tailoring you can do, so, if all you can find are midi skirts, you could shorten them. If you want to know what they'd look like as mini skirts, roll them up at the waist until they're as short as you like. We used to do that to our school uniform ones, haha.
